What this site collects

The short version

There are no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. We do not ask for your name, your email address or your vehicle identification number, and we do not sell or share anything with data brokers. One third-party script runs on the site: Google Analytics, described below.

What we collect ourselves

Our web server keeps an access log of requests: the page requested, the time, the response code, the browser's user-agent string and the IP address the request came from. This is what lets us see that the site is up, find pages that are broken, and detect automated scraping. These logs rotate automatically and are not combined with anything else or used to build a profile of a visitor.

Searching for a vehicle sends the text you typed to our own API so it can return matching models. Those requests appear in the access log like any other and are not stored separately.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information about your visit, including a truncated form of your IP address, the pages you viewed and general information about your device. We use it only in aggregate; we have no interest in individual visitors and no way to connect a visit to a person.

You can prevent it entirely. Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, most browsers offer tracker blocking, and any content blocker will stop the script from loading. Nothing on this site depends on it, so blocking it costs you nothing.

Advertising

The site reserves space for advertising and does not currently serve any. If that changes, this page will be updated before the first ad appears, and it will say who the provider is and what they set.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own. The only cookies on the site are the ones Google Analytics sets, and blocking that script prevents them.

Data about vehicles is not data about you

The complaints shown here were published by NHTSA, which removes personal details before release. We display them as published. If you believe a record contains personal information that NHTSA should have redacted, that correction has to be made at the source, and we will reflect it once NHTSA republishes.

Your rights

Because we hold no accounts and no personal records, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or erase. If you are in the UK, EU or a US state with a comparable law and want to ask about the server logs, write to us and we will tell you what we have.
