Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Altec has received notification from Parker Chelsea, the manufacturer, of an issue with some of their 281 and 890 Series PTOs. An unintended restriction in lubrication flow may produce elevated back pressure in cold-start scenarios, leading to partial engagement of the clutch. Once the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature, the clutch drag will abate. In extreme cases, repeated cold starts may result in clutch disk damage and failure to engage when activated.

Altec has learned that a 12-volt Airtronics relay installed in the PDM could have been manufactured to an insufficient threshold on certain units built from December 2004 to October 2022. This can cause the relay to overheat and fail, causing the accessory lights to stop working.

Altec has learned that the hydraulic ball valve on the hydraulic reservoir return line of certain L42/45 M/P units built from February 2002 to November 2019 might not get returned to the open position after being turned to the closed position for maintenance. If the upper boom drive system is articulated while the ball valve is in the closed position, both upper boom drive cylinders could retract simultaneously causing the lower boom to buckle. The customer should order and install the Hydraulic Shutoff Valve Placard Kit. The kit must be installed by the next preventative maintenance interval, or within 90 days of receipt of this notice, whichever comes first.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Ford Motor Company that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. In certain 2011 through 2013 and 2015 model year F-650 and F-750 vehicles with 70% fixed front seat built from February 14, 2011, to April 28, 2015, the front passenger and center seat belts might not be anchored in the correct position relative to the seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Altec has learned that the electrohydraulic outrigger/tools control valve on AA755L and A-series aerial devices and DLB, DMB, and D2/3/4000B series digger derricks could have the potential to produce a very small amount of flow into the lower tools circuit when the outriggers and tools mode is engaged. This can cause slow unintended movement of a tool such as a pole puller cylinder that is connected to the tool circuit. A blanking plug must be installed to prevent this issue. Inspect the outrigger/tools control valve using the Inspection Procedure. The inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider. Altec will perform the work for free at an Altec facility.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2012 through 2020 model year (D2) Ram 3500 pickup, (DD) Ram 3500 cab chassis, and (DP) Ram 4500/5500 cab chassis vehicles. Refer to the included communication from FCA US for additional information. A remedy for this condition is not currently available. An additional notice will be mailed to you when a remedy is available. Altec is not able to complete this repair. This repair is not covered under the Altec Warranty policy.

There may be inadequate weld fusion between the boom extension cylinder rod and rod end on the affected units. This can lead to failure of the weld. Altec has developed a process to have the cylinder rod end attachment repaired by the cylinder manufacturer. Altec requires the repair be completed on the affected units by the next annual preventive maintenance interval or within one year of receipt of the SIL.

Structural cracking has been observed where the primary leveling cylinder mounting pin is welded to the lower boom side plate on LS 40/45/55 aerial devices. Failure of this connection could disable the hydraulic platform leveling system. Altec has developed a kit to reduce the relief pressure of the hydraulic leveling circuit. This will prevent damage to the leveling cylinder mounting pin weld joint by reducing the weld stress. Altec has also developed a kit to repair the lower boom if the side plate has cracked. Altec requires the inspection and repair be completed on the affected units by the next annual preventive maintenance interval or within one year of receipt of the SIL.

Altec has discovered that the protective fabric hose sock in the upper boom hose carrier on the affected units can become unsecured and slip out of place. This can expose the fiber optic lines to damage, resulting in intermittent operation or failure of the upper controls. Altec requires the following actions to be performed on the affected units no later than 30 days after receiving this SIL. ⢠Inspect the hose sock in the upper boom using the Inspection Procedure beginning on page 2. ⢠Have Altec make any required repairs.

Product Update Notice 2020B reminded customers that they may be unable to store necessary equipment in the body of the cutaway van without exceeding the rear axle capacity. For customers who are not satisfied with the remaining capacity of your vehicle, the tailshelf mounted generator and roof mounted air conditioning unit can be removed. Altec will provide kits to close the opening in the van roof and modify wiring after the generator is removed. Order the A/C Cover Sealing Service Kit, part number 991064376, and the Generator Plug Service Kit, part number 991063374 by calling 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832).
