An unintended restriction in lubrication flow may produce elevated back pressure in cold-start scenarios, leading to partial engagement of the clutch. Once the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature, the clutch drag will abate. In extreme cases, repeated cold starts may result in clutch disk damage and failure to engage when activated.

Towing variants of the Bendix electronic brake controller’s (EC80) Power Line Communication (PLC) functionality may incorrectly process certain signals. The EC80 may set a fault or stop operating or malfunction. Safety systems that depend on the ECU such as ATC, ABS, ESP, Active Cruise Control (ACC), and Collision mitigation (CMS) systems may have diminished or lost functionality increasing the risk of a crash.

Altec has learned that Section 9 of the Maintenance and Parts Manual for Certain AC45E cranes built from September 2020 to November 2023 contains an incorrect torque value of 250 foot-pounds (339 Nâ¢m) for the rotation gearbox mounting cap screws. All other locations in the manual contain the correct torque value of 65 foot-pounds (88 Nâ¢m) for these cap screws. Torquing these cap screws to 250 foot-pounds (339 Nâ¢m) can result in breaking the bolts during rotation gearbox installation or maintenance. The Maintenance Manual has been updated to show the correct torque value.

Altec learned that a connection in the upper controls joystick in certain OEM Controls on AT238P aerial devices built from November 2020 to August 2022 can fail due to wire movement during use and issued SIL-845 to re-manufacture controllers in the field. After SIL-845 was released, OEM Controls joysticks continued to fail due to a faulty soldered connection. If this failure happens with the boom elevated, the operator in the platform will need another person to use the lower controls to lower the platform. The manufacturer has redesigned the connection and is providing a replacement joystick to eliminate this issue.

The brake pressure switch may allow brake fluid to seep past the diaphragm seal into the brake pressure switch electrical connector and associated fuse which can short the switch and/or fuse.

Torquing these cap screws to 325 foot-pounds can stretch them, causing loose mounting of the rotation gearbox. The Maintenance Manual has been updated to show the correct torque value. The owner should request updated Maintenance Manuals by November 30, 2023.

Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Truck Division and wholly owned subsidiary Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC), has decided a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 to 2022 model year Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, and Business Class M2 vehicles; and FCCC Shuttle, Business Class M2, and S2RV chassis model vehicles that is equipped with Altec equipment. On the affected vehicles, the spline teeth in the windshield wiper arms may wear. This can result in a loss of wipers functioning correctly, reducing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. If the driver has operated the windshield wipers as part of the recommended pre-trip inspection, the defect would likely be detectable during the inspection.

On the affected vehicles, the drag link taper joint at the steering arm may not have been tightened sufficiently and may come loose. This may result in a gradual loosening of the joint, causing a loss of steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. A loose joint may be detected by pre-trip inspections, loose steering, wandering, noises or vibration.

Altec has learned that the hose/cable assembly can have a reduced life expectancy due to abrasion sustained during extension and retraction of the horizontal leg. Altec has developed a product improvement using a triple-bonded hose with the electrical cable contained inside the center hose of the assembly.

Warn Industries has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the handheld remote control device sold with WARN VR EVO winches. A small number of remotes that have been exposed to or submerged in water have exhibited failures that can result in unintended winch operation, which increases the risk of injury.

The body compartment wiring on certain Altec aerial devices, digger derricks, and body-only units built from 2014 to 2021 contains an in-line fuse located close to the lighting in the compartment, while other units are fused upstream, closer to the power source. Altec has learned that the units affected should have an in-line fuse close to the lighting, but this fuse was not installed on some units. In addition, some units may have exposed terminals at the end of certain portions of the wiring in the body. If the exposed terminals contact each other or with ground, the resulting direct short could damage the body compartment lighting. Inspect the body compartment lighting circuit at the unit's next scheduled service interval or within six months of receiving the SIL, whichever comes first. Use the Inspection Procedure or contact Altec to perform the inspection. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider. Altec will perform the work for free at an Altec facility. If the customer or the customer's warranty provider performs the work, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the parts and/or labor.

This can cause slow unintended movement of a tool such as a pole puller cylinder that is connected to the tool circuit. A blanking plug must be installed to prevent this issue. Inspect the outrigger/tools control valve using the Inspection Procedure. This can cause the ePTO to become loose from its mounting bracket, resulting in excessive vibration. The fasteners may need to be replaced with new, correctly installed fasteners. Customers should inspect the ePTO mounting fasteners no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 120 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. If repair is required, order and install the specified mounting kit or schedule the installation of the kit by Altec. If cap screw(s) are missing, take the unit out of service until the kit has been installed.

The investigation has shown that improper wiring could have been installed for the PTO request module that interfaces the EZ Trac system with the Ford system, leading to the loss of functionality. Altec requires the vehicle to be inspected no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 90 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. If the inspection reveals nonconforming operation, the vehicle must be repaired by both an Altec technician and a Terra Drive Systems technician working together. Some customers have reported hose carrier failure and/or cover damage occurring during the operation of LS60 aerial devices built from January 2017 to May 2020. Altec has developed an improved design of the hose carrier tray and cover system to eliminate the cause of failure. Altec requires the hose carrier tray and cover system to be inspected on each unit and any required repairs completed no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 180 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. Units that have the original design hose carrier tray and the cover system will require repairs to be scheduled at an Altec facility, using the kit(s) and any other parts identified for replacement during the inspection. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy. The inspection can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customerâÂÂs warranty provider. If the customer or the customerâÂÂs warranty provider performs the inspection, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the labor

The labeling for the available jump starting connections has recently been made more visible. Altec has made a kit available to provide the updated labeling upon customer request.

Altec has discovered that certain AT200A aerial devices built from June 2020 to January 2021 could have square inside corners on a mounting frame side plate. The square corners can cause excessive stress levels in the side plate. Over time this could cause cracking of the side plate. Altec has redesigned the mounting frame side plate to have rounded corners, and has developed an update process using a template to add a radius to the corners on units in the field. Altec requires the mounting frame to be inspected on each unit no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 90 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. If the inspection confirms the mounting frame side plate has square corners, order the Mounting Frame Update Template Kit. Use the kit to update the mounting frame upon receipt. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider.

Chafing can occur on hoses at the rear of the turntable on certain LS60 aerial devices built from February 2018 to February 2021. Altec requires the hose routing to be inspected on the affected units no later than the next periodic maintenance interval or 60 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. The Inspection Procedure can be completed by a customer in less than 30 minutes. If the inspection criteria are not met, the customer can order the Hose Securing Kit and any required replacements for damaged hoses. Install the kit and hoses within 90 days of the receipt of the SIL. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customerâs warranty provider. Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
On certain AT37/41/48 M/ME/P/PE/S/SE aerial devices built from June of 2015 to March of 2020 Altec requires the platform leveling bracket assembly to be inspected as described in the Inspection Procedure. If the inspection discovers any missing or damaged rotary actuator mounting cap screws or any cracks in the leveling bracket, the unit must be taken out of service at the end of the inspection procedure. The repair could include the replacement of the platform leveling bracket with a new design bracket that has increased material thickness and a redesigned rotary actuator mounting capscrew arrangement. The inspection and any resulting repairs must be completed no later than the unit's next preventative maintenance interval or one year from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider.

Altec has learned that certain Rear-mounted LR7 units built from May 2019 to April 2021 have reports of the platform ribs separating from the platform shell near the bottom of the platform. The separation can be caused by excessive bouncing from road vibration if the upper boom is not properly secured. Altec recommends the platform be inspected using the procedure covered in the SIL notification document. A repair kit, part number 991298748, can be ordered by calling Altec.

Altec has learned that the fender rubber on certain units built from July 2020 to October 2020 can become detached from the wheel well fender cutout of the utility body. Altec recommends that all fender rubber be inspected using the inspection procedure described in the SIL. If the installed fender rubber does not pass inspection, order and install the Fender Rubber Replacement Kit. If the fender rubber passes the inspection, complete the Inspection Sheet at the end of this document. No additional inspections are required.

Altec has discovered that cracks might have formed in the yoke of the platform assembly on some AC40 cranes equipped with a personnel platform built between February 2014 and November 2020. Although the cracks do not compromise the structural integrity of the platform assembly, Altec will provide a replacement yoke if cracks are found. Altec requires the platform yoke to be inspected on each unit. The inspection and repair must be completed no later than 90 days after receipt of the SIL. If the yoke does not pass the inspection, remove the platform assembly from service. Order the Platform Yoke Replacement Kit, part number 991283643, by calling 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832). Return the unit to service without the platform assembly, and install the kit as soon as it is received.

Certain LR7 aerial devices sold between September 2020 and November 2020 might have a trailer plug wiring configuration that was specified in the purchase order to supply a constant 12+ volts to pin 6. If you intend to pull a trailer that is configured with pin 6 as the trailer brakes, a wiring change could be needed. Ensure that you check the trailer brake operation as part of the pre-trip inspection to ensure that the trailer brakes are operating properly. Altec does not require the truck-mounted trailer plug to be rewired, but rewiring might be necessary depending on the trailer the customer intends to pull.

Cummins has launched a customer satisfaction campaign for certain Cummins B6.7 diesel engines produced between August 26, 2020 and October 5, 2020, that may have been installed. Some of the affected vehicles may contain engine valve springs that could experience premature failure. As a result, the engine may have a loss of power and will result in a need for repairs. Contact your authorized Cummins Distributor for an appointment to correct the condition as described in the attached communication. The vehicle owner is responsible for making arrangements to have the work completed. Altec is not able to complete this repair. All work must be completed by an authorized Cummins Distributor.

Cummins Inc. has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain B6.7 diesel engines manufactured between December 16, 2015, and March 24, 2020, and equipped with fuel module option FS90301 or FS90453. Cummins has released field Safety Campaign #C2302 "86.7 Engine-Mounted Fuel Heater Safety Campaign" to correct the condition detailed in the attached Cummins communication. This safety recall addresses the potential safety defect for your engine. However, this repair will disable the fuel heater. Cummins is currently working to determine an appropriate cold-weather starting aid for customers that require it. Cummins Distributors and Dealers will be notified when a separate field action is available. Contact the nearest Cummins Distributor or authorized warranty dealer to arrange to have this campaign performed on your engine. In the meantime, to mitigate the safety risk, Cummins has advised action. Altec is not able to complete this repair. All work must be completed by an authorized Cummins Distributor or authorized warranty dealer.

Certain B6.7 diesel engines manufactured between December 16, 2015 and March 24, 2020 and equipped with fuel module option FS90301 or FS90453 were either delivered with a heater plug in place of the fuel heater, or your vehicle is subject to the recently-released Safety Campaign #C2302 B6.7 Engine-Mounted Fuel Heater Safety Campaign, (Altec Campaign CSR 510) which requires removal or disablement of the fuel heater. Cummins is developing for installation at a future date a new fuel heating solution for customers that require it for cold weather operation. Cummins has not determined the availability date of the new fuel heating solution. Altec is not able to complete this repair or answer questions regarding this safety campaign. All work must be completed by an authorized Cummins Distributor or authorized warranty dealer.

Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2021 model year Econoline Ford E-350 and E-450 equipped with a 7.3L engine and a factory engine cover built between May 11, 2019 and November 13, 2020. Some of the affected vehicles may contain an engine cover with insulation on the underside of the engine cover that does not fully extend to the perimeter of the engine cover as intended. As a result, heat from the engine compartment can cause elevated temperatures on the passenger compartment surface of the engine cover. Direct and continuous contact with certain areas of the passenger compartment surface of the engine cover may cause burns to the skin of the driver or front seat passenger. Contact your authorized Ford dealer for an appointment to correct the condition. The vehicle owner is responsible for making arrangements to have the work completed. Altec is not able to complete this repair. All work must be completed by an authorized Ford dealer.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Trucks Division and wholly-owned subsidiary, Western Star Truck Sales Inc., has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on specific model year 2020 through 2021 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, and Cascadia vehicles manufactured June 1, 2020, through September 9, 2020. On certain vehicles, the steer axle spindle nut snap ring may not be fully engaged. If the snap ring becomes dislodged, it may not prevent the spindle nut from backing-off. This can cause the hub to loosen and potentially cause a wheel-off condition, increasing the risk of a motor vehicle crash or injury. The snap ring will be inspected for proper installation and repaired as needed. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Trucks North America authorized service facilities.

Altec has been notified of a recall campaign by Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA). DTNA, on behalf of its Freightliner Trucks Division, has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on specific model year 2018-2021 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, and Business Class M2 vehicles manufactured May 24, 2017 through August 26, 2020 and equipped with a Detroit Diesel DD8 engine. On certain vehicles, the engine harness may contact and chafe at various locations around the air compressor and the frame rail. If the wires are damaged and short, under certain circumstances, the engine may stall without any prior warning, with no ability to restart, which may increase the risk of a crash. Engine harnesses will be inspected for damage, adequate clearance, and repaired as required. Owners of affected units - Please contact an authorized DTNA dealer to arrange to have the recall performed and to ensure that parts are available at the dealership. Instructions on how to request this service are included in the attached letter from DTNA.

Altec has discovered that the protective fabric hose sock in the upper boom hose carrier on the affected units can become unsecured and slip out of place. This can expose the fiber optic lines to damage, resulting in intermittent operation or failure of the upper controls. Altec requires the following actions to be performed on the affected units no later than 30 days after receiving this SIL. ⢠Inspect the hose sock in the upper boom using the Inspection Procedure beginning on page 2. ⢠Have Altec make any required repairs.

Altec discovered that the torque requirement for the inner race rotation bearing bolts for the LS60 was incorrect on one of the pages in the Maintenance Manual. The correct torque requirement is 300 foot-pounds (407 N.m). In the two manuals included with the affected units, the torque requirement is incorrectly stated at 365 foot-pounds (496 N.m) on page 24. Two replacement pages stating the correct torque value are included with this SIL. Altec requires that the original page 24 be removed from each of the two maintenance manuals in the three ring binders and the replacement page be inserted in its place. This replacement should be completed no later than 30 days from receipt of this SIL. If additional maintenance manuals are required for multiple units, two-sided copies can be made and used for replacement.

Product Update Notice 2020B reminded customers that they may be unable to store necessary equipment in the body of the cutaway van without exceeding the rear axle capacity. For customers who are not satisfied with the remaining capacity of your vehicle, the tailshelf mounted generator and roof mounted air conditioning unit can be removed. Altec will provide kits to close the opening in the van roof and modify wiring after the generator is removed.
