Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

This can prevent the hydraulic overload protection system from operating properly to prevent a structural overload of the boom.

This could lead to unintentional overloading which could result in cracks or deformations to the king pin assembly. Altec has had no reports of this issue occuring. This area should be inspected regularly as outlined in the Welds and Fasteners subsections in Section 4 of the unit’s Maintenance and Parts Manual.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from International that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety in certain vehicles that are equipped with Altec equipment. Towing variants of the Bendix electronic brake controller’s (EC80) Power Line Communication (PLC) functionality may incorrectly process certain signals. The EC80 may set a fault or stop operating or malfunction. Safety systems that depend on the ECU such as ATC, ABS, ESP, Active Cruise Control (ACC), and Collision mitigation (CMS) systems may have diminished or lost functionality increasing the risk of a crash.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Truck Division, that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Truck Division and wholly owned subsidiary Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC), has decided a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 to 2022 model year Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, and Business Class M2 vehicles; and FCCC Shuttle, Business Class M2, and S2RV chassis model vehicles that is equipped with Altec equipment. On the affected vehicles, the spline teeth in the windshield wiper arms may wear. This can result in a loss of wipers functioning correctly, reducing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. If the driver has operated the windshield wipers as part of the recommended pre-trip inspection, the defect would likely be detectable during the inspection.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Navistar, Inc. that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in certain 2022 through 2024 model year Navistar HV and MV series vehicles built from January 8, 2021, through February 10, 2023, equipped with an automatic transmission that is equipped with Altec equipment. On certain trucks equipped with an automatic transmission, if the automatic transmission is still in drive or reverse position and the stationary variable engine speed control or stationary PTO switch is engaged, the engine RPM will ramp up and may overcome parking brake hold capability resulting in possible unexpected vehicle movement. Unexpected movement of the truck can increase the risk of property damage or personal injury.

Kenworth Truck Company has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2021-2024 T280, T380, and T480 vehicles built from 06/17/2020 through 01/17/2023. The brake pedal plunger may become dislodged when the brake pedal is fully depressed and rapidly released. This can prevent the driver from applying the service brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. No audible or visual warning is available. The risk of the brake plunger dislodging may be reduced by slowly releasing the service brakes and not allowing the pedal to release rapidly.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Peterbilt that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. Peterbilt has decided that certain 2022 through 2023 Model Year 365,367,389,567, and 579 chassis built during 02/15/2021 through 09/08/2022 fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard ("FMVSS") No. 101 - Controls and Displays; FMVSS No. 108 - Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment; FMVSS No. 121 - Air Brake Systems; and FMVSS No. 136 - Electronic Stabilty Control Systems for Heavy Vehicles. The 15-inch digital display may freeze without prior indication, and can be reset only by a key cycle, battery disconnect, or re-programming, which may increase the risk of a crash. Follow the guidance in the communication from Peterbilt. Altec is not able to perform this repair. The work must be completed by a Peterbilt Dealer.

Navistar has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2022 and 2023 TC commercial buses, WorkStar model trucks, and HV, HX, LT, MV, RH, and Lonestar series trucks built June 1, 2021, through June 7, 2022, and equipped with R. H. Sheppard HD94E, M100P, M110P, HD94P, XD120P, MD83P, SD110P, M83P, M90P, or M80P model steering gears. A loss of steering increases the risk of a vehicle crash. A final remedy has not been determined.

For certain 2023 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, and Business Class M2 vehicles manufactured from February 1, 2022, through May 13, 2022, the U-joint pinch bolts on the steering assembly could have been installed incorrectly. This could lead the steering wheel to detach from the front axle wheels, resulting in a possible loss of vehicle control and an increased risk of a crash.

Contact any International dealer location to have your vehicle repaired at no cost to you. Altec is not able to perform this repair. The work must be completed by an International dealer.
