Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Altec Industries, Inc. has been notified by Ford Motor Company that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020-2022 Model Year Super Duty and 2021-2022 Medium Truck vehicles equipped with 6.7L Diesel Engines that are equipped with certain Altec aerial devices or service bodies.

Altec has learned that certain GB5 general service bodies built from April 2018 to September 2024 may experience the unexpected movement of the street side grab handle when used to climb to the top of the service body. A solution has been developed to replace the rivet nuts with new hardware.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Ford Motor Company that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. Certain 2020 to 2022 MY Super Duty vehicles built February 2019 through June 2022 and 2021 to 2023 MY H567 Med Truck F-650, F-750 vehicles with 6.7L engines built May 2019 through June 2022 may be equipped with an improperly functioning onboard diagnostics (OBD) system that is not meeting regulatory requirements and is equipped with a powertrain calibration that eventually can lead to tailpipe emissions that exceed the standard.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Ford Motor Company that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. On certain Expedition and Navigator model year 2018 to 2023 vehicles built March 2017 through May 2023; Super Duty model year 2019 to 2023 vehicles built March 2018 to May 2023, the supplemental owner's guide does not include an accurate description of all head restraints and instructions for adjusting or removing certain center head restraints. The inability to access this information increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Altec has learned that certain units built with a Jobsite Energy Management System (JEMS) S/SE/LE from October 2020 to May 17, 2023, may fail to charge or operate properly, particularly when the battery is cold. Altec has developed a firmware update to resolve this issue.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from General Motors (GM) that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. These vehicles may have a brake pressure sensor assembly that allows brake fluid to leak beyond the diaphragm seal into the pressure switch. The brake fluid may seep into the sensor's electrical components and short the brake pressure switch and the associated fuse. If brake fluid shorts the brake pressure switch and the associated fuse, the circuit can generate excessive heat that could result in a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA US) that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. Certain 2022 and 2023 model year (DJ) Ram 2500 Pickup, (D2) Ram 3500 Pickup, (DD) Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, (DP) Ram 4500/5500 Cab Chassis vehicles equipped with a 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel engine can experience an engine compartment fire originating from the Generation 1 solid state intake air grid heater relay. An electrical short in the relay can lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off. A vehicle fire can result in an increased risk of occupant injury and/or injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage.

Altec has learned that when the coolant-style oil heater on certain AH75B/85B100B aerial devices built from April 2021 to August 2022 is active, the operator has to turn off the engine in order to disengage the power take-off (PTO). Replacement of a wiring harness in the pedestal is required to resolve this issue.
SIL 850
The body compartment wiring on certain Altec aerial devices, digger derricks, and body-only units built from 2014 to 2021 contains an in-line fuse located close to the lighting in the compartment, while other units are fused upstream, closer to the power source. Altec has learned that the units affected should have an in-line fuse close to the lighting, but this fuse was not installed on some units. In addition, some units may have exposed terminals at the end of certain portions of the wiring in the body. If the exposed terminals contact each other or with ground, the resulting direct short could damage the body compartment lighting. Inspect the body compartment lighting circuit at the unit's next scheduled service interval or within six months of receiving the SIL, whichever comes first. Use the Inspection Procedure or contact Altec to perform the inspection. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider. Altec will perform the work for free at an Altec facility. If the customer or the customer's warranty provider performs the work, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the parts and/or labor.

Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Ford Motor Company that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2021 through 2022 model year Econoline vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels built from May 11, 2019, through June 17, 2021. Schedule repair with your authorized Ford dealer.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
