However, the dropping of the suspension does not necessarily mean that the air spring is faulty. -The Measure section of this TPI describes how and where to check for air leaks on the front and rear air springs, the air supply unit, pipes, valve unit and air reservoirs. This includes potential air leak points on the air spring dampers and also the locations of an air leak that can be repaired without the need to replace an air spring damper.

Customer statement / workshop findings: Unable to remove Accessory valve caps, Figure 1 shows an example of the caps. Technical background: We have observed instances where the caps have been difficult to remove once fitted, the issue is caused by corrosion. The valve stem itself is made from aluminium and the accessory valve caps are chromium plated brass, it is possible under certain environmental conditions, particularly winter road salt, for corrosion to take place between these dissimilar metals. Measure: The solution is to apply a thin smear of silicon-based grease, such as Dow Corning high vacuum grease, to the external threads of the valve stem prior to fitting the accessory valve cap. Grease should be applied any time the cap is removed and grease is not evident

Customer statement: 1. The lenses of the headlights (illustration 1a) /front fog lamps (illustration 1b) are steamed up/damp from the inside with minor drips. 2. Water is in the headlight (illustration 2a) / front fog lamp (illustration 2b), big drips. Technical Background 1. Damp air settles on the inner lens of the headlights/fog lamps, with recognisable misting in certain weather conditions (comparable with the steaming up of spectacle lenses when entering a warm room in winter or of the bathroom mirror after a shower). 2. Leak on the headlights/front fog lamps. For example through open covers, a damaged seal of the cap or similar.

Condition: Customer statement: Noise complaint from the braking system. Workshop findings: The noise can be reproduced and clearly assigned to the braking system. Technical Background Brake noises can be attributed to many causes. Eight of the most common causes are: 1. Brake discs or pads are close to their wear limit. 2. New brake pads and/or discs have not been properly bedded in after installation. 3. Aftermarket pads or discs are installed. 4. There is debris such as small stones, grit, road salt or sand between the brake disc and pad. 5. Discs are covered in rust. Rust can form when the vehicle has been stationary for long periods of time (Figure 1). 6. Discs have a groove in them (Figure 2) 7. There is chemical contamination on the braking surface of the disc due to a wheel or tyre cleaner being sprayed directly onto the disc (Figure 3). 8. There are pad marks on the brake disc as a result of the brake pad material transferring to the discs. This can occur when a vehicle has been stood for long periods of time in a wet or snowy environment (Figure 4).

Condition: The front and/or rear suspension appears to have dropped. Technical Background: The list of Bentley vehicles below are fitted with air springs as part of the suspension system. Should air leak from the air springs, this will cause the suspension to drop. However, the dropping of the suspension does not necessarily mean that the air spring is faulty. The Measure section of this TPI describes how and where to check for air leaks on the front and rear air springs, the air pump compressor, pipes, valve unit and air reservoirs. This includes potential air leak points on the air springs and also the locations of an air leak that can be repaired without the need to replace an air spring. Please follow and complete the check list within the Measure section of this TPI to help in diagnosing the issue (the check list does not need to be sent as an attachment should a DISS technical query be raised) . Should a leak be found from an air spring, compressor, valve unit or reservoir, please raise a DISS technical query and include as much information as possible including photograph/s of the leak/s location. Once the DISS ticket has been submitted please await clarification from your TSC before commencing with replacing any of the suspected faulty air springs. Mandatory reporting is applicable for all air spring related issues.

Service info: Engine oil Specific oil type and oil consumption dealer reference Customer statement / workshop findings: Engine oil level requires top up between services Technical background: The introduction of the Bentley Continental GT V8 brings a new engine to the Bentley family. This all new 4.0 litre V8 twin turbo joins the 6.0 litre W12 in the Continental range with the 6.75 litre V8 reserved for the Mulsanne. Each of these three engines had individual design criteria producing unique driving characteristics as a result each have individual lubrication requirements and oil consumption statistics. With the 4.0 litre V8 comes a new oil to Bentley - this new engine lubricant must only be used in the 4.0 litre V8. The use of the correct oil for each engine is critical to its continued performance, reliability and ultimately warranty. Therefor the workshop manual should always be the first point of reference ensuring the correct lubricant is used for each specific model year and engine type

Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
