Air spring fault finding Customer Statement: -The front and/or rear suspension appears to have dropped Technical Background: -Bentley vehicles which are applicable to this TPI are fitted with air springs as part of the suspension system. Should air leak from the air spring dampers, this will cause the suspension to drop. However, the dropping of the suspension does not necessarily mean that the air spring is faulty. -The Measure section of this TPI describes how and where to check for air leaks on the front and rear air springs, the air supply unit, pipes, valve unit and air reservoirs. This includes potential air leak points on the air spring dampers and also the locations of an air leak that can be repaired without the need to replace an air spring damper.

Technical background: We have observed instances where the caps have been difficult to remove once fitted, the issue is caused by corrosion. The valve stem itself is made from aluminium and the accessory valve caps are chromium plated brass, it is possible under certain environmental conditions, particularly winter road salt, for corrosion to take place between these dissimilar metals. Measure: The solution is to apply a thin smear of silicon-based grease, such as Dow Corning high vacuum grease, to the external threads of the valve stem prior to fitting the accessory valve cap. Gearbox code P1703 not clearing in Guided Fault finding Condition: There is no customer complaint the fault code is logged as a result of connecting the diagnostic tester When the fault memory is read using Guided Fault finding the following codes may be logged: P170300 Limp home, control unit reset (located in diagnostic address 02 Transmission control module) U1111 Function limitation due to missing message (located in diagnostic address 81 Gear Shift Control Module (GSM) Technical Background: Due to a communication error between the tester and the transmission control module the above faults may be logged even though there is no problem with the vehicles gearbox system. If these faults are logged and there is no gearbox problem reported, clear these codes using vehicle Self Diagnosis.
