Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
Cummins recently issued Temporary Repair Practice (TRP2484) for certain vehicles with DEF sensor failures in which DEF sensor replacement parts are not available. This provides a temporary ECM calibration that inhibits engine warning messages for communication errors with the DEF sensor allowing continued operation without engine derate. Regulators are allowing for this temporary calibration to be loaded in the engine ECM by a Cummins authorized repair location if the DEF sensor fails. This temporary calibration does not repair the failure therefore a final repair must be performed and the original calibration be re-installed. Field Service has been requesting an ECM image be uploaded within the support ticket as part of the diagnostics and is carried over into Service Update 2201 (SU2201). In order to receive an authorization code and utilize Cummins TRP2484, you must follow the process, as outlined in SU2201. The specific component affected is Assembly Code: 35-300 Emissions Components.

Overview: Certain 2013 through 2022 model year Blue Bird Vision School and Non-School Bus units has experienced signs of single strand failing, leading to multiple stands, and eventually belt failure. The belt composition is not ideal for the life cycle of the bus. This Service Bulletin will provide owners with a one-time new replacement belt with the more durable material that is currently being used in production and for service. This Service Bulletin is for part cost coverage only. No labor reimbursement will be provided. Affected Units: Blue Bird Body Company is voluntarily issuing a service bulletin for the following: o Certain model year 2013 through 2022 Blue Bird Vision School Buses omanufactured from January 10, 2012 through February 26, 2021 o Certain model year 2013 through 2022 Blue Bird Vision Non-School Buses omanufactured from November 20, 2012 through November 19, 2020 Repair Parts: The Parts List outlined in the S21AZ Instructions details the part required to perform Service Bulletin S19AZ and should be ordered through Blue Bird Service Parts. The belt is based on the engine generation. Parts are currently available. Time Allowance: No labor will be provided to replace the belt with a more durable material belt, per the published Service Bulletin instructions.

This SKU is a DEF Injector. The customer communication requested return of unsold inventory to inspect the sealing. The injector sealing may have an issue which will cause a slow leak. A slow leak of the DEF Injector can lead to crystal formation which can cause aftertreatment related fault codes and ECU driven engine derating.

This modification will be done using the Roush Diagnostic Tool (RDT). The RDT software version 10.04.0011 or higher is required.

Also, "Powertrain, Ford" has been added to the drop-down tab as a system type selection. "Powertrain Ford" system type is used to identify both Ford engine and transmission fault codes.

Additionally, the wiring harness (PN 10023917) connected to the relay base should be inspected for any sign of damage and replaced, if necessary. Blue Bird will provide parts at no cost and will reimburse the repair time in accordance with the information presented below. The intent of SU1702 is to provide service part replacement instructions for our new Ametek instrument cluster. The new cluster will be in full production beginning June 5, 2017. During the time between now and June 5, 2017 Blue Bird will be building some pilot units with the new cluster. Until full implementation Feature 40280 -14 will be added to pilot units. The new Ametek instrument clusters will also be used as a direct service part replacement for older Actia instrument clusters.

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain model year 2015-2018 Vision School Buses manufactured from February 19, 2014, through March 3, 2017. The chassis mounted battery box support bracket(s) on certain Vision buses may develop cracks or fracture and could allow the battery box to separate from the chassis and fall. The design of the existing battery box support brackets may not be adequate in certain applications. If both the battery box support brackets were to completely fail and detach from the bus, it could become a road hazard increasing the risk of a crash. Buses should be corrected immediately according to the instructions for Recall R17YY. Dealers should inspect for loose or missing fasteners and cracks at the bolt holes and the bend radius. Repair according to the matrix in the instructions. Repairs include removing braces on all units, adding reinforcements or replacing front and rear brackets on some units with new higher strength steel, based on the matrix in the instructions. Parts are expected to be available the end of April, initially in limited quantities, at no cost to you.

This dealer memo announced a product upgrade program on 6.8L Gen3 Propane Engines. This is being done as a product upgrade and to increase customer satisfaction. Blue Bird will be updating all Gen3 Propane buses with the improved Gen4 roller finger follower (RFF). The new Gen4 RFF improves oil jet velocity for the RFF roller bearing element and camshaft interface.

At your next and all subsequent oil changes, Blue Bird recommends only the use of 5W-30 motor oil. All oils used must have the API certification mark. The current oil fill cap is labeled 5W-20. Install a new oil fill cap labeled 5W-30.
