Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions

Vehicle report
Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

After a quality inspection it was found that due to improper machining, the right-side chain tensioner screw plug doesn’t meet the specifications over the service life of the motorcycle. As a result, over increased mileage accrued noise and engine damage may occur.

There is perceivable play between the case and the case holder and can be annoying to customers. The aluminum cases of the R1300GS are hooked into the case holders that are mounted on the vehicle and are locked in place with a lock. In contrast to the aluminum case of the R1250GS, they are not braced together with the luggage rack. This hook-in concept makes it easy to mount and remove the cases from the vehicle. This ensures that the cases can be securely locked to the vehicle in all possible tolerance positions.

In affected vehicles, an incorrect bolt may be installed in the clutch release lever of the ASA (AutomatedShift Assistant, SA 022A) transmission. This may result in premature wear to the bolt. At an advanced stage, this wear typically leads to noise concerns and may also cause clutch malfunctions. The affected vehicles have been placed under the delivery stop STOP230007 associated with campaign number 0023220000, which will be lifted upon completion of this technical campaign.

In some R 1300 model motorcycles, it has been detected that the rear wheel swingarm has play in theaxial direction. The mounting of the swingarm to the frame is comparable to the F and S model motorcycles. During the mounting of the swingarm axle, this creates different tensions from motorcycle to motorcycle pulling the frame together. Resulting in little to no axial play allowing axial movement on the swingarm axle.

Calibration of one or both ride height sensors fail due to the ride height sensor/s are not positioned correctly.

One or both of the front brake caliper/s are leaking after sitting idle for long periods of time. They only leak atlow internal pressures.

The comfort flashing function is deactivated in the instrument cluster settings, the function reactivatesautomatically after a few seconds. This means that comfort flashing cannot be deactivated. Due to a software error in I-level X001-25-03-505.

The Blow-By clearance tolerance at the handbrake lever fitting may be below than what is stated by the manufacturer, which can lead to slight braking pressure in the front brakes under certain settings (e.g. warm outside temp to warm breaks, etc…) with a slow release of pressure over time. Several conditions must be achieved for this to occur: 1.The FCW (Front Collision Warning) rider assistant system must be activated. 2.The FCW must trigger a warning based on the traffic condition. Moderate pressure must build up in the brake system during this warning trigger. 3.The handbrake lever fitting’s blow by clearance must be below the tolerance level specified by the manufacturer. In some instances, the brake pressure built up by the FCW will not release immediately because the sealing lip in the piston can become blocked by the insufficient blow by clearance and will slowly release the pressure over time. In the cases above, it is always the result of an incorrectly adjusted handbrake lever fitting as the FCW assistance system works correctly and reliably. Only in isolated cases the manufacturer had delivered handbrake lever fittings in which the blow by clearance is set too low. NOTE: The Standard setting of the handbrake lever fitting piston blow by clearance MUST NOT be adjusted, not even to adjust free travel or for assembly of aftermarket accessory levers!!!!! The seal on the locking screw is to prevent manipulation and MUST NOT BE BROKEN. Examples of untampered and tampers fittings are below with an example of the location.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
