Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

After a quality inspection it was found that due to improper machining, the right-side chain tensioner screw plug doesn’t meet the specifications over the service life of the motorcycle. As a result, over increased mileage accrued noise and engine damage may occur.

In some R 1300 model motorcycles, it has been detected that the rear wheel swingarm has play in theaxial direction. The mounting of the swingarm to the frame is comparable to the F and S model motorcycles. During the mounting of the swingarm axle, this creates different tensions from motorcycle to motorcycle pulling theframe together. Resulting in little to no axial play allowing axial movement on the swingarm axle.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
