BMW Motorrad has ascertained that the engine installed in the affected vehicles may have a burr present in the guide bore for the oil supply of the timing chain. The burr can dislodge over time due to vibrations and oil pressure fluctuations (incl. temperature influences). This can cause a narrowing or restriction of an oil duct or oil spray nozzle. A lack of lubrication (e.g. the timing chain) or insufficient cooling (e.g. the piston) can be the result.
