If engine control system diagnostic tests determine that this temperature sensor is not performing as expected, the control system becomes locked in a pending fault state. When this happens, the system cannot illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or clear the pending fault state, even when normal temperature sensor performance is confirmed. While in the pending fault state, other diagnostic tests may not run, and exhaust braking performance capability may be reduced. Dealers are to reprogram the engine control module with modified software.
