Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions

THIS COMMUNICATION WAS ISSUED TO CLARIFY THE CAUSE OF THE CLOUDY APPEARANCE OF THE OIL IN HUBS. THIS APPEARANCE WAS CAUSED BY WATER EMULSIFYING WITH THE OIL. THIS CLOUDY APPEARANCE IS NOT PERFORMANCE INHIBITING. THE WATER INSIDE OF THE HUB WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY CONDENSATION, HIGH HUMIDITY, AND MOISTURE INTERNAL TO THE HUB AT THE TIME OF ASSEMBLY. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF WATER INFILTRATED THE HUB FROM A LEAKING SEAL, THERE WOULD ALSO BE VISUAL WITNESS OF OIL LEAKING OUT. THIS COULD ALSO BE NOTICED BY THE OIL LEVEL IN THE SIGHT GLASS.

Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions

THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REPAIR FULTON WELD-ON MOUNTING BRACKETS FOR THE XP AND XLT JACK SERIES. DUE TO MANUFACTURING PROCESS VARIATIONS, THE HOLES ON SOME FULTON WELD-ON MOUNTING BRACKETS MAY BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION, WHICH MAY MAKE IT DIFFICULT (OR IN THE CASE OF EXTREME VARIANCE, IMPOSSIBLE) FOR THE PULL PIN TO FULLY SEAT INTO THE WELD-ON MOUNTING BRACKET HOLE(S).

Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
