For 20212026 vehicles equipped with the 10R80 transmission, a new Transmission Clutch Circuit Leak Test has been introduced in the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). This test utilizes the pressure and vacuum transducer (PVT) when available. When referred to a specific clutch (A-F) test by a pinpoint test in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01 > Diagnosis and Testing, the Clutch Assembly tests have been updated with a hyperlink to the new Transmission Line Pressure Test - Pressure Vacuum Transducer (PVT) Is Available procedure in WSM, Section 307-01 > General Procedures. This procedure provides instructions to perform the FDRS Transmission Clutch Circuit Leak Test when applicable. The new test improves the accuracy of detecting leaks within transmission fluid circuits and replaces the previous air check method. The previous air check procedure has been shown to produce a high rate of false positives, which may lead to unnecessary repairs when no actual leak is present. Unlike the integrated wired keypad, the accessory wireless keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool or from the label printed on the body control module (BCM). The Factory Keyless Entry Code application within the diagnostic scan tool will not provide an applicable master code for the accessory wireless keypad. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is not available, the "Wireless RF Keypad Diagnosis Guide" can be referenced and provides direction on how to retrieve the master code. This updated procedure improves the diagnosis of customer reported transmission concerns and aids in locating the proper root cause. During diagnosis and testing, details regarding whether the condition is more prevalent when the vehicle is hot or cold, throttle percentage at the time of occurrence, vehicle speed, the specific shift involved, and whether the issue occurs during transmission engagements (N>R, N>D, R>D, or D>R) should be noted. Engineering requests including these detailed operating conditions that will significantly assist with root cause analysis. Diagnosis, testing, and repair should use established labor times outside this article.

Various 2019-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 may experience a partially or fully black center display screen at start-up using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This does not affect rear camera operation. This may be due to interference from the phone being connected into the media hub using a universal serial bus (USB) cable during SYNC system boot up. To correct his condition, advise the customer to disconnect the USB cable from the phone. If the center display screen displays normally, reconnect the phone. If the concern persists, disconnect the phone from the USB cable, cycle the ignition off and open the driver's door so the interior lights come on. Close the door, start the vehicle and wait for the center display screen to boot up past the start-up animation and display the home screen, then reconnect the phone using the USB cable. If the concern persists after this procedure, follow normal Workshop Manual diagnostics for a blank screen concern.

Some 2021-2025 Ford/ Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may not be able to perform an update to the accessory protocol interface module (APIM). This may be due to the software in the APIM. Ford Engineering has de-activated the ability to update these SYNC4 APIM modules as applicable, and the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) will not present an update for the APIM module. Some existing directed repairs may be impacted, check Professional Technician System (PTS) before attempting any specific technical service bulletin (TSB)/special service message (SSM) and check field service action (FSA) landing pages before attempting any FSA repairs. For any vehicle repairs requiring a software update that includes an APIM update in the programming sequence, if the 5-digit product code for the APIM software is equal to or lower than 23187, do not attempt to update affected modules at this time. To determine the 5-digit product code for the APIM software on the vehicle, while the vehicle center display screen is powered up with ignition in run or accessory, go to Settings > General > About SYNC.

This may be due to low memory in the APIM commonly occurring on software level NU5T-14G381-AB/BB. The current software level can be verified in the SYNC tab of Professional Technician System (PTS) or using the vehicle's center display screen, Settings > General > About. To correct the condition, run the universal USB updater. If unsuccessful, using the latest software version of the FDRS scan tool, run the service function "APIM - Reset the Accessory Protocol Interface Module Application" and select "Clear All User Data" option. The center display screen will reboot. As soon as the vehicle's center display screen displays the boot up logo, immediately reinsert the same universal serial bus (USB) drive that was utilized during the prior failed programming attempt.

Refer to the parts catalog for the proper 2WD seals required.

If the accessory keypad was factory installed, this card will be placed in the glove box and should be handed to the vehicles owner during initial delivery. Unlike the integrated (wired) factory keypad, the accessory keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is lost, follow these steps to recover the code. Dealer Key Code access is granted through the Dealer Program Enrollment System (DPES); dealership management can authorize users. The authorized user must go to FMCDealer.com > Parts and Service > Parts Product Line Information > Keys/Entry Devices > Aftermarket Keyless Entry Keypad Code Access. Follow the instructions on the screen to obtain the master code for the accessory keypad.

Various vehicles have had pinpoint tests, guided routines and the Warranty and Policy Manual recentlyupdated for diagnostics and repairs on SYNC generation 3 and later applications. When performingdiagnostics and repairs on SYNC Gen 3 or later, select the diagnostics tab and search for related symptoms,DTCs and keywords. The search results will be shown in the search results pane. Read and follow allTechnical Service Bulletins (TSB), Special Service Message (SSM)s or General Service Bulletin (GSB) first if abulletin specifically addresses the vehicle concern. If there are no messages, run the appropriate diagnosticpinpoint test found in the Workshop Manual (WSM). Follow the steps in the pinpoint test. Make sure to note thetitle of the guided routine, using the correct one for the vehicle's symptom or diagnostic trouble code (DTC) iscritical. Depending on the outcome of the pinpoint test, a repair validation code (RVC) may be generated eitherin the pinpoint test or Guided Routine. If the vehicle concern still exists after following the pinpoint tests orguided routine, then a manual RVC can be generated using the RVC Assist Form. A manual RVC can only begenerated once the above process has been followed.

For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.

Some 2020-2023 Ford and Lincoln SYNC3 equipped vehicles may experience an inaccurate notification in the FordPassî/LincolnWayî app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode. Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode message is expected if the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module (BCM) 12 volt battery state of charge (SoC) drops below 50%. If the vehicle is going into deep sleep due to one of these conditions, follow normal Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 414-01 procedure to correct the concern. If the vehicle is going into deep sleep outside these conditions, this may be due to the telematics control unit (TCU) software. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the TCU to the latest software. For claiming, use causal part 14G229 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

Some 2017-2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmission may exhibit a whine noise at idle and/or while driving. This may be identified as coming from the bellhousing and the front of the transmission fluid pan. The whine noise may become louder when the transmission is at operating temperature and may increase with engine revolutions per minute (RPM) in the park (P) position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmissions due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability. Use the Report a Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of OASIS to submit a report if there is a customer concern of whine noise describing operating conditions and noise severity.

Some 2019-2023 Ranger (non-Tremor) vehicles may exhibit a shudder/vibration when accelerating. This may be due to an excessive rear axle pinion angle (rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles) or the pinion and driveshaft assemblies (four-wheel drive (4WD) non-Tremor vehicles). To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to adjust the rear axle pinion angle on 4x2 vehicles or replace the rear axle pinion and driveshaft on 4x4 non-Tremor vehicles.

In various 2017-2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, customers may receive a message in the FordPass or LincolnWay App stating Feature Unavailable. Since this is a fleet vehicle, it cannot access the (SYNC Connect) FordPass or LincolnWay app through the TCU Embedded Modem. If this message appears, the vehicle may be equipped with a fleet telematics module. Replacement of the TCU or TCU related repairs will not prevent this message from appearing. Refer the customer to in app FordPass Guides or LincolnWay Concierge Teams to aid with fleet telematics removal. Open app, select Account > Help > CHAT or CALL option.

Some 2020-2023 Ford and Lincoln SYNC3 equipped vehicles may experience an inaccurate notification in the FordPass®/LincolnWay® app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode. Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode message is expected if the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module (BCM) 12 volt battery state of charge (SoC) drops below 50%. If the vehicle is going into deep sleep outside these conditions, this may be due to the telematics control unit (TCU) software. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the TCU to the latest software. SSM 51536
For 2000-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, swapping a module from a vehicle for diagnosis purposes is likely to cause errors and is not recommended. It is also not recommended to order a replacement module using a vehicle identification number (VIN) from a different vehicle. Most modules on these affected vehicles are VIN/vehicle specific and hardware variations between modules do exist. Swapping a module from a vehicle or ordering a module using a different vehicle/VIN can cause ineffective repairs and additional vehicle down time. Make sure all appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures are followed when diagnosing the condition prior to all module replacements and only order modules using the correct VIN.
TSB 23-2062
Some 2019-2023 Ranger crew cab vehicles may exhibit excessive latching effort when returning the rear seat backrest assembly to the upright position. This may be due to oversized rear seat backrest bumpers preventing latch to striker engagement. Vehicles built on or before 04-Feb-2019 may also have excessive deadening material inside the rear seat backrest latch. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the rear seat backrest bumpers and adjust the striker position.

Some 2019-2023 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a shudder/vibration when accelerating from a stop. This may be due to an excessive rear axle pinion angle. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to adjust the rear axle pinion angle.
SSM 51452
Some 2021-2023 F-150, 2021-2023 F-Super Duty, 2021-2023 Ranger customers may have concerns including, but not limited to: no power to the distribution box, rear camera inoperative, rear park assist inoperative, box lights inoperative, power up/down tailgate inoperative, unable to open tailgate by tailgate switch, and no tailgate ajar message when the tailgate is ajar. These concerns may be caused by faulty connections between the pickup bed, tailgate, rear lamp assemblies, or bumper where connectors are disconnected, damaged, or coated with bedliner. Prior to performing any warranty diagnosis or repairs, verify if the vehicle had an aftermarket spray-in-bedliner. Any repairs resulting from aftermarket products/installation, including but not limited to a spray-in bedliner, are not covered under warranty.

Some 2017-2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmission may exhibit a whine noise at idle and/or while driving. This may be identified as coming from the bellhousing and the front of the transmission fluid pan. The whine noise may become louder when the transmission is at operating temperature and may increase with engine revolutions per minute (RPM) in the park (P) position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmissions due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability.

Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water build up in the spark plug well(s) which can lead to signs of corrosion on ignition system components. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to resolve the source of all DTCs and to install an engine appearance cover.

Some 2015-2023 F-150, 2017-2022 F-Super Duty, and 2019-2023 Ranger vehicles may exhibit dust ingress into the cabin through the doors or air extractors. This may be due to the climate control system being in recirculation mode as a result of the recirculation button being on or automatic strategies for heating/cooling efficiency. To minimize dust ingress when driving in off-road or secondary road conditions, make sure that all doors and windows are fully closed and the climate control system is switched to defrost on and the instrument panel and footwell air vents are switched to off. Temperature and fan settings may be adjusted as desired. Alternatively, max defrost can be activated which will adjust all settings automatically. Operating in defrost mode will keep constant air flow through the rear air extractors and other small areas, helping minimize dust ingress.
SSM 51261
Some Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit noise when the brakes are applied. When diagnosing and repairing brake noise conditions, use the Workshop Manual (WSM) and the appropriate pinpoint test in section 206-00. The brake rotors should only be machined if directed by the WSM because one or more of the following conditions are present on the braking surface: scoring, excessive corrosion/rust or pitting, bluing/discoloration and/or heat spots. For additional information, refer to WSM section 206-00.
SSM 51239
Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles not equipped with an engine appearance cover may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water build up in the spark plug well(s) which can lead to signs of corrosion on ignition system components. To prevent reoccurrence, an engine appearance cover must be installed on the vehicle. Currently, the engine cover (SPN: L1MZ-6A949-A) is not available to order and a new engine cover kit is being released. Repair the vehicle by replacing suspect ignition system components and schedule an appointment with the customer to have an engine cover installed when the engine cover kit becomes available in April 2023. Some 2017-2022 Ford/Lincoln customers may experience a notification in the FordPassÃÂÃÂÃÂî/LincolnWayÃÂÃÂÃÂî app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode. This occurs when the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module (BCM) 12 volt battery state of charge (SOC) drops below 50%. A warning may also set if the telematic control unit (TCU) has received an over the air update. The TCU powers down all communication when in this mode and app features are disabled. Manually start the vehicle to wake if from mode. More information is located in the app under: Account > Help > search 'Deep Sleep' in the entry box. If the condition remains, check the BCM 12v SOC. If the SOC does not change after charging the battery or after BMS reset is performed, continue with normal battery and/or BMS sensor diagnostics.
SSM 50873
Some 2017-2022 Ford and Lincoln vehicle owners may experience a condition of missing authorization, command and control, battery charging details or phone-as-a-key setup buttons/selections in their FordPass or LincolnWay App. This condition is due to an error within the FordPass or LincolnWay App and not due to a concern on the vehicle. Verify that the customers FordPass or LincolnWay App is at the latest version. Replacement or reprogramming of the telematics control unit (TCU)/gateway module (GWM)/remote function actuator (RFA) will not resolve this condition. If the condition persists, utilize the FordPass Guides or Lincoln Way Concierge teams.
SSM 50863
Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may encounter a concern of FordPass not updating the current vehicle location and/or a battery draw is found to be from either the audio control module (ACM) or gateway module (GWM). This may be due to the software in the GWM. To correct this condition, reprogram the GWM using the latest software level of Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). SSM 50793
The 2021 Ranger front fender material migrated on 22-Apr-2021 from aluminum to steel. Additionally, service replacement fenders for 2019-2022 made of aluminum are no longer available. When replacing a front fender on Rangers built on or after 22-Apr-2021, no special instructions are needed as the service replacement steel front fenders are an exact replacement component. When replacing front fenders on Rangers built on or before 21-Apr-2021, replacement of the front bumper brackets SPN: KB3Z-17C887-D (right/front) and SPN: KB3Z-17C886-D (left/front) is required to ensure proper fitment of the new steel fender. Fender apron insulators, SPN: LB3Z-16071-A(right), SPN: LB3Z-16072-A(left) The exterior appearance of the aluminum and steel front fenders are identical. The fender material do not need to match side to side on a vehicle.
SSM 50733
Some 2021 and 2022 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may experience a tire sidewall wavy/indentation appearance in the radial direction on one or both sidewalls. Sidewall wavy/indentation appearance is a common cosmetic characteristic of radial tire construction and will not affect the performance of the tire.

Some 2021-2022 Ranger/Bronco vehicles equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine built on or after 14-Dec-2021 and 2022 Explorer vehicles equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine and built on or after 14-Dec-2021, may exhibit a lack of power with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P25B4 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct the condition, clear the DTC and road test the vehicle under load until the vehicle reaches operating temperature. If the DTC repeats, the turbocharger will need to be replaced. For claiming use causal part 6K682 and applicable labor times found in Section 09 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. If the DTC does not repeat, release the vehicle to the customer.
SSM 50656
Some 2022 Ranger 4x4 vehicles built on 14-Feb-2022 and through 22-Mar-2022 may exhibit a vibration/boom noise above 50 mph (80 km/h) originating from the front of the vehicle. This may be due to an imbalanced front axle assembly. If the tires and drive shaft have been eliminated as the possible cause, inspect the front axle tag and locate the serial number. If the front axle serial number is between (XXXDRK 22041 XXXXX) and (XXXDRK 22075 XXXXX), replace the front axle with service part number KB3Z-3002-C. If not, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 100-04.

SSM 50603
Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may experience condensation from the climate control system dripping on the driver's side floor and/or the driver's foot. This may be due to improper or poorly wrapped evaporator lines between the interior bulkhead and the climate control assembly case. Using a flashlight and a mirror, inspect the evaporator lines for being exposed or poorly wrapped. The cut ends of the mastic wrap should be on the top of the lines and have complete coverage. If an issue is found, cover the lines by manipulating the existing mastic wrap, or by adding more mastic to better insulate the lines and limit condensation.
SSM 50566
Some 2022 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may need to perform A/C leak detection diagnostics. The 2022 Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00 for A/C leak detection diagnosis is incomplete and is in the process of being updated. At this time, Pinpoint Test AN of Section 412-00 in the 2022 F-150 WSM can be used temporarily for the service procedure and specifications. Use the correct vehicle specific removal and replacement sections as needed. A new labor operation 19700A45 has also been released to align with the new procedure.

Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a shudder/vibration when accelerating from a stop. This may be due to an excessive rear axle pinion angle. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to adjust the rear axle pinion angle.

Some 2017-2018 Focus/MKX/C-MAX, 2017-2019 MKC/Taurus/Flex/MKT, 2017-2020 Fusion/MKZ/Continental, 2017-2022 Mustang/Edge/Explorer/Police Interceptor Utility/Escape/F-150/F-Super Duty, 2018-2022 Expedition/Navigator, 2019-2022 Ranger/Nautilus, 2020-2022 Corsair/Aviator, and 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles may exhibit a noisy, incorrectly operating, and/or inoperative seat motor. This may be due to a damaged or inoperative seat track motor. A lower level service part has been released to correct noisy, incorrect operation/inoperative seat track motors.
SSM 50442
Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may experience an uneven and/or excessive gap existing between the instrument panel (IP) topper and the center tray/upfitter switch assembly. This may be due to a lack of rigidity in the IP topper not allowing the tray/upfitter switch assembly to latch properly. The following foam block service kits should be used to correct this condition. For vehicles equipped with an IP tray, order service part # KB3Z-2104338-AG, which includes a new IP tray and foam blocks. For vehicles equipped with the upfitter switch assembly, order service part # KB3Z-2104338-A, which only includes the foam blocks. If a new upfitter switch assembly is required, this must be ordered separately. Follow the installation instructions included with each kit to install the foam blocks and repair the vehicle.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
