DTNA received a field notification on multiple units regarding diagnostic fault codes that were found to be causing issues to the After Treatment Control Module (ACM). These fault codes indicated that the ACM communication message was not received by the Motor Control Module (MCM) which in certain cases, led to a 25% engine de-rate situation. Further diagnosis revealed that the DT12 wiring harness was chafing and contacting the transmission TCU case. To reduce potential chafing areas, the proposed short-term containment was to route the wiring harness using additional tie straps. This communication applies to Freightliner and Western Star vehicles built with DT12 transmissions.

Information has been added about raising the system voltage to normal range to clear the "Lost Communication to MPC" code. The multipurpose camera 2 (MPC2) power is supplied via fuse 14 (F14) in New Cascadia vehicles built before August 24, 2020. With this configuration, fault code 232/524127/9 - "Lost Communication to MPC" becomes active during low voltage disconnect (LVD) situations when load shedding is required to maintain critical systems. These instructions provide the procedure for moving the MPC2 power supply from fuse 14 (F14) to fuse 35 (F35). Moving the MPC2 power supply requires the installation of a new etched vehicle power distribution module (VPDM) cover to document the new MPC2 location.

New Cascadia vehicles with light emitting diode (LED) headlamps built from January 1, 2017 through February 17, 2020 may experience intermittent disabled headlamps due to an issue with the universal light ballast (ULB). The LED headlamps can turn off if the supply voltage drops below approximately 9V. This low voltage commonly and momentarily occurs when cranking the engine on a vehicle with batteries that are not fully charged. The momentary low voltage may cause the electronic ULB control unit to malfunction. The ULB may not resume normal function until the power supply to the headlamp is disconnected.

Chaffing is observed more on the ground cable exiting the box. Typically, the battery rubs are found during the routine battery inspections. The symptoms related to excessive chafing could include low battery voltage faults, or slow or no engine crank.

Even though the connector is sealed, water spray, in addition to wiring that may be pulled sideways, can cause water intrusion into the connector. A backshell can be added to the connector to provide shielding from direct water spray. It also provides strain relief for the wires entering the connector.

Some New Cascadia vehicles with chassis fairings have remote-fill Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tanks which have new instructions to replace the remote fill hose and fitting. Proper torque value is critical, as the remote-fill fittings are plastic and can easily crack if overtightened. The gasket on the fill fitting is sensitive to improper installation, and can get pinched, resulting in a DEF leak.

Service Solution for P4 New Cascadia with Manual Transmissions Does Not Use Bottom Of Clutch Switch For Starting. On the prior P3 Legacy Cascadia vehicles with manual transmission, the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch could be uses as an interlock for the engine crank circuit. If programmed in the SAM Cab, the engine crank circuit would require the clutch to be fully depressed in order for the engine to crank. P3 also offered a neutral switch as an interlock that could be used instead of the BOC and would require the transmission to be neutral in order for the engine to crank. P4 New Cascadia only offers the neutral switch as the interlock for engine crank.
