This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a reduced or loss of power steering assist, steering wheel jerks or kicks back when turning, Service Stabilitrak message with warning chime, engine stall, Instrument Panel Cluster going blank or inoperative, radio/Integrated Center Stack going blank, Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning going blank, hood ajar message and/or dome lamps flash when shifting into reverse, alarm sounds when locking doors or door locks cycling, and or wipers continue to run for a short time after turning off and then stop/park in the incorrect location. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes U0073, U0078, U0029, U0028, U0415, U0140, U0126, U0121, U0101, U0100, C0544, C0710, U1510, B127B, B2605, B3600, C0800, U0428, U0452, U0131, and P0513 set in the vehicle. Check the body control module ground at the G218 location. The front dash insulator mat may be trapped between the ground eyelet and the body stud. Remove the round nut and eyelet and cut the front dash insulator mat away from the ground stud so it no longer interferes with the ground stud and reinstall the eyelet and ground nut. Technician will also inspect the starter solenoid battery cable for shorting out on the starter heat shield. Technician will need to voltage drop the battery cables. The battery should be tested using the GR8. X183 or X133 should be inspected for any broken/loose/backed out terminals.

Technician will find Diagnostic Trouble Code P2636 will be set in the Engine Control Module. Technician will need to install (Y) Fuel Tank Fill Vent hose. Technician will need to remove the original fuel balance pump line from the pump tube. Technician can now add a new line from the (Y) to the fuel balance pump line and reprogram the ECM with updated calibrations. If the vehicle returns with the same concern and Diagnostic Trouble Code P2636 set in the Engine Control Module. Technician will need to reprogram the Engine Control Module with the latest calibrations.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicle that may have a "Check Trailer Wiring" or "Service Trailer Brake System" message on the Driver Information Center when a trailer is connected to the vehicle. Diagnostic Trouble Code C1114 set in the Chassis Control Module. Chassis Control Module has to determine the type of trailer brake system that is being used. The Chassis Control Module can be sensitive to a variety of trailer wiring issues. The technician will need to make a trailer tester using Electric Trailer Brake Magnets and 7-way trailer connector to determine if it is a vehicle or trailer issue. If the concern is not duplicated with the tester installed, the vehicle is operating correctly and the focus should be on the trailer wiring or 7 way connector.

Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and or P0430 stored. Technician should be advised that the catalytic converter efficiency Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and P0430 are disabled for the first hour of engine run time to allow break-in of the catalytic converter. Technician will need to use a Tech2 to check the verify engine run time on the Engine Hour Meter in the Instrument Panel Cluster Data Display/Data 1 List in the scan tool match. If the engine run time is less than one hour, the battery may have been disconnected, or another vehicle power loss event may have occurred, during vehicle manufacturing. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle. If the catalytic converter was replaced and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes set it may be a result of the engine run time restrictions no longer being in place since the vehicle is no longer new. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle.
