Certain Heil Half/Pack® and Half/Pack® (featuring Odyssey® Controls) units manufactured between October 1, 2018 through July 31, 2020 identified below can potentially have specific hydraulic tube failures due to tube misalignment and insufficient tube clamping force to prevent tube damage from vibration. This Service Bulletin describes the required interim corrective action procedure to install the Front Head Tube Support Clamp Field Kit (372-9225). This kit decreases hydraulic tube vibration and reduces the chance of front head manifold tube movement. Reinforcing the 3/4” Hydraulic Tube (354-5571) will prevent the tube from loosening or breaking at the front head manifold.

Starting August 1, 2020, to ensure the highest hydraulic hose reliability, pump-to-filter and filter-to-valve 4-wire spiral hydraulic hoses have become standard on all Half/Pack® (featuring Odyssey® Controls) units. These two (2) specific 2-wire braided hydraulic hoses (Parker 387ST-16) that will be replaced with 4-wire spiral hoses (Parker 722ST-16 or equivalent) on these units are: (1) Pump to high pressure filter (hose part number varies with chassis configuration) (2) High pressure filter to main body control valve (hose part number varies with chassis configuration)

This Service Bulletin addresses mandatory Cortex Controller™ program updates for certain 20 YD Commercial and Residential Half/Pack® (featuring Odyssey Controls) units equipped with CNrG™ Tailgate identified in the Products Affected section below. This program update prevents the tailgate close function when the packer is fully extended, so that the CNrG™ Tailgate, packer panel assembly, or associated components do not become damaged closing onto the fully extended packer.

SB-18-302 adds certain Rear End Loaders to the Products Affected section below and adds repair instructions for both the Front End Loader/Automated Side Loader 4-Hole Pin Mount Kit (372-8847) and the Rear End Loader 3-Hole Pin Mount Kit (372-8848). The only difference between the kits is the Spacer Plate hole configuration. Heil has identified the potential for a weld defect on certain Heil Front End Loaders, Automated Side Loaders and Rear End Loaders manufactured from June 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018. The potential defect relates to improper welding of the Rear Mounting Pin Weldments, Heil P/N 211-5256. For Service Hoist or Service Lift equipped Front End Loaders, these two pins (one on each side of the frame rail) hinge the body structure during Service Hoist or Service Lift raising and lowering operations. Utilizing the Service Hoist or Service Lift may cause the raised body to become unstable.

Heil has identified the potential for a weld defect on Heil® DuraPack® Front End Loaders, DuraPack® Python® Side Loaders, and DuraPack® Rapid Rail® Side Loaders equipped with the Service Hoist or Service Lift options manufactured from June 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018. Note that Service Hoist and Service Lift functions are almost identical, except that the Service Hoist includes truck-mounted hydraulic cylinders for lifting the body and a Service Lift requires a crane or other outside lifting device. The potential defect relates to off-spec welding of the Rear Pivot Pin Assemblies, Heil P/N 211-5256. These 2 pins (one on each side of the frame rail) hinge the body structure during Service Hoist or Service Lift raising and lowering operations.
