Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
After connecting to a truck using DX3, it may be necessary to review or create a DX Diagnostic Report for review.
Vehicle report
Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

This SKU is a DEF Injector. The customer communication requested return of unsold inventory to inspect the sealing. The injector sealing may have an issue which will cause a slow leak. A slow leak of the DEF Injector can lead to crystal formation which can cause aftertreatment related fault codes and ECU driven engine derating.

17MY vehicles contain the function to monitor PM sensor performance, however because the threshold for detection logic is not appropriate, the engine ECU may not detect a malfunction of the PM sensor. The following procedure provides direction for reprogramming the PM sensor. Certain 17MYCOE Trucks equipped with a J05 engine

Beginning with the 2017 model year, Hino changed the standard battery from a group 27 to a group 31. In the event that a group 27 battery must be replaced, it is recommended to use the group 31 as the service replacement for 2014MY and newer units. 2014MY-2016MY Hino Conventional trucks

SA-14-026 The broken hood grille procedure (SB-14-020) has been revised to reuse the grille nuts (SZ17906009) if possible. There is a limited quantity of the nuts available and it has been confirmed that the nuts are reusable. The revised procedure has been posted on HinoNet. Please see the picture below on which area of the procedure has been updated.

TT-16-005 The purpose of the tech tip is to provide information for a low power concern possibly relating to the brake switch. Hino Trucks are equipped with two brake switches. First, a stop lamp switch that is designed to activate stop lamps on the truck. Second, a brake switch that is designed to send brake application input for modules to monitor brake activation. When monitoring DXII with the brake applied, the switches should both read ON and when the brake pedal is released, they should both read OFF. If the brake is not applied (typically when accelerating) and if one switch reads ON while the other reads OFF when the brake pedal is not applied, a brake switch correlation concern is the likely cause. Perform the following to identify the switch with this concern.

SB-15-045 Fiberglass repair methods have been made available to address hood crack concerns. In the event a subject vehicle experiences cracking of the hood near the hinges, this repair procedure should be used to address this condition. While these repair methods may be effective at repairing a hood that was damaged from impact, impact damage repair is not warrantable. Hoods should be inspected for impact damage prior to performing this procedure. 11MY-16MY Hino Conventional Trucks (238, 258, 268 or 338) equipped with a snow plow specification stationary grille.

SB-15-031 Foreign debris in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank may cause the SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) system to malfunction. This can result in DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) P20E8 or P20E9 - DEF Pressure Abnormality. An inlet strainer for the DEF tank has been made available to prevent foreign material from entering the DEF tank.

SB-15-030 On subject vehicles, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U02A2 stored in the engine ECU. This may be due to a malfunction of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank sensor assembly. Perform the diagnostic procedure for DTC U02A2 as outlined by the Workshop Manual (DEF SCR System Section for Conventional Vehicles, Engine Troubleshooting Section for COE Vehicles). If the diagnostic procedure leads to DEF tank sensor replacement, a more robust DEF tank sensor has been made available.

DTC U02A2 DEF sensor communication error. On subject vehicles, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U02A2 stored in the engine ECU. This may be due to a malfunction of the DEF (Diese Exhaust Fluidf) tank sensor asslembly. Perform the diagnostic prolcedure for DT C U02A2 as outlined by the Workshop Manual (DEF SCR Section for Conventional Vehicles, Engine Troiubleshooting Section for COE Vehicles). If the diagnostic procedure leads to DEF tank sensor replacement, a more robust DEF tank sensor has been made available. TT-15-016 The purpose of this publication is to communicate the standard measuring positions on the Hino chassis. In some cases, the customer may report a visual chassis posture concern where the chassis appears to be leaning more towards the driver side or passenger side. The following publication can be referenced to obtain the manufacture?s measurement positions and specifications. Should the truck not meet the specifications, you should consider the following potential causes noted in the inspection guideline section below.

SB-15-026 A subject vehicle may exhibit an engine oil leak or engine coolant leaking externally from the engine head gasket sealing area on the exhaust manifold side of the engine. An improved head gasket has been made available as a service part and should be used if replacement of the head gasket is necessary. Improvement of the head gasket includes the addition of rubber seals around the engine oil and engine coolant port holes.

TT-15-014 The transmission DTC?s P0974 and P0986, may be found on 12MY-15MY COE models. There could also be a complaint of low power and erratic shifting. These diagnostic codes may be set due to low voltage between the transmission case and the battery post.

Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
