Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
CAB OVER ENGINE (COE) ECU, DCU AND VCS SOFTWARE UPDATE
Vehicle report
Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

The subject vehicle may experience water intrusion into the neutral switch of the transmission. This concern may cause the following symptoms: - The starter motor may fail to engage when activated. - MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with the following DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) or DTC?s stored in the transmission ECU (Electronic Control Unit). o DTC P0705: Shift Position Switch System Failure o DTC P0706: Abnormality In D Range Pressure An enhanced neutral switch and transmission harness are available to address these concerns.

17MY vehicles contain the function to monitor PM sensor performance, however because the threshold for detection logic is not appropriate, the engine ECU may not detect a malfunction of the PM sensor. The following procedure provides direction for reprogramming the PM sensor. Certain 17MYCOE Trucks equipped with a J05 engine

Beginning with the 2017 model year, Hino changed the standard battery from a group 27 to a group 31. In the event that a group 27 battery must be replaced, it is recommended to use the group 31 as the service replacement for 2014MY and newer units. 2014MY-2016MY Hino Conventional trucks

SA-14-026 The broken hood grille procedure (SB-14-020) has been revised to reuse the grille nuts (SZ17906009) if possible. There is a limited quantity of the nuts available and it has been confirmed that the nuts are reusable. The revised procedure has been posted on HinoNet. Please see the picture below on which area of the procedure has been updated.

TT-15-025 Subject vehicles may exhibit a MIL lamp on with reduced engine power due to a fault within the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. If DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) related to the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) pump set, it will be helpful to follow the latest diagnostic troubleshooting procedures published in the 2015MY OR LATER online Workshop Manual found on Hinonet. Hino has found that the majority of DEF pumps returned through warranty function properly and did not require replacement. The DEF pump has a serviceable inlet connector (which has a filter screen), a serviceable backflow connector, and a serviceable DEF filter. Failure to follow the published diagnostic procedure may result in warranty chargeback, if the pump assembly is replaced when notrequired. Please review the diagnostic tips below regarding the DEF pump.

SB-15-031 Foreign debris in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank may cause the SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) system to malfunction. This can result in DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) P20E8 or P20E9 - DEF Pressure Abnormality. An inlet strainer for the DEF tank has been made available to prevent foreign material from entering the DEF tank.
167-B1527-12
SB-15-030 On subject vehicles, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U02A2 stored in the engine ECU. This may be due to a malfunction of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank sensor assembly. Perform the diagnostic procedure for DTC U02A2 as outlined by the Workshop Manual (DEF SCR System Section for Conventional Vehicles, Engine Troubleshooting Section for COE Vehicles). If the diagnostic procedure leads to DEF tank sensor replacement, a more robust DEF tank sensor has been made available.

TT-15-016 The purpose of this publication is to communicate the standard measuring positions on the Hino chassis. In some cases, the customer may report a visual chassis posture concern where the chassis appears to be leaning more towards the driver side or passenger side. The following publication can be referenced to obtain the manufacture?s measurement positions and specifications. Should the truck not meet the specifications, you should consider the following potential causes noted in the inspection guideline section below.

SB-15-026 A subject vehicle may exhibit an engine oil leak or engine coolant leaking externally from the engine head gasket sealing area on the exhaust manifold side of the engine. An improved head gasket has been made available as a service part and should be used if replacement of the head gasket is necessary. Improvement of the head gasket includes the addition of rubber seals around the engine oil and engine coolant port holes.

TT-15-014 The transmission DTC?s P0974 and P0986, may be found on 12MY-15MY COE models. There could also be a complaint of low power and erratic shifting. These diagnostic codes may be set due to low voltage between the transmission case and the battery post.

SB-15-010 Some vehicles that operate in extreme cold weather climates may exhibit ice accumulation on the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) butterfly plate with a repeat P1604 DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the engine ECU. A heated EGR valve has been made available to prevent this occurrence.

Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
