General - Brake switch low power diagnosis. Conventionnal Trucks or 2013 - 16 (155, 195) COE trucks. The purpose of the tech tip is to provide information for a low power concern possibly relating to the brake switch. Hino Trucks are equipped with two brake switches. First, a stop lamp switch that is designed to activate stop lamps on the truck. Second, a brakeswitch that is designed to send brake application input for modules to monitor brake activation. When monitoring DXII with the brake applied, the switches should both read ON and when the brake pedal is released, they shoiuld both read OFF. If the brake is not applied (typically when accelerating) and if one switch reads ON while the other reads OFF when the brake pedal is not applied, a brake switch correlation concern is the likely cause. Perform the following to identify the switch with this concern.

If the vehicle exhibits this condition, it is necessary to first verify that all of the protective covers and caps are installed before suspecting a problem with the headlamp assembly. Any loose of missing caps or cover s on the headlamp will result in water entry. Note that some condensation within the headlamp at times should be considered normal.

In the event that one of the subject vehicles is driven while the ABS warning lamp is illuminated, operation of the torque converter clutch will be suspended. Driving the vehicle with an ABS warning lamp illuminated can lead to overheating of the transmission fluid due to the torque converter clutch not functioning. A jumper harness has been made available that will allow operation of the torque converter clutch in the event that the vehicle is driven while the ABS warning lamp is illuminated.
