SB-18-034 CONVENTIONAL UNIFICATION OF PART NUMBER WORKSHOP MANUAL CORRECTION
Vehicle report
Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

SA-14-026 The broken hood grille procedure (SB-14-020) has been revised to reuse the grille nuts (SZ17906009) if possible. There is a limited quantity of the nuts available and it has been confirmed that the nuts are reusable. The revised procedure has been posted on HinoNet. Please see the picture below on which area of the procedure has been updated.

TT-16-013 The procedure for installing the rocker shaft bolts into the cam housing has been updated. It is recommended to lightly lubricate the threads and flange of the bolts with clean engine oil before installing them. The torque specification has also been reduced as a result of adding lubricant to the bolts.

General - DTC P20B2 Coolant Cutoff Valve diagnostic - Most SCR (Selective catalyst reduction) coolant cutoff valves received through warranty return do not reveal any faults when tested. Please follow the checks outlined below before replacing the coolant cutoff valve. When testing the cutoff valve function with the DXII (Diagnostic Explorer 2), The valve may not click if the valve is unplugged any time while the ignition is on, The DCU will disable test function of the cutoff valve. In order to enable the cutoff valve operation, ensure the valve is plugged in and perform the UREA SCR System Memory Reset From the Engine ECU Data Monitor and follow the prompts to complete the reset. After performing the SCR reset, clear DTC and then read out DTC's P204F from the engine ECU and cycle the ignition off for 60 seconds. Turn the ignition on, and then read out DTC's in the Engine ECU and DCU. If no DTC's are present, the cutoff valve function test can now be performed. If the cutoff valve clicks when performing step 8 of the current diagnostic procedure in the Workshop Manual, it is NOT likely that the cut off valve is faulty. When testing power or ground to the cutoff valve, the valve must be plugged in or the DCU will not apply power to the cutoff valve when an open load is detected. Once an open load is detected, a UREA SCR System Memory Reset is required, as mentioned above. If necessary, power and ground to the valve can be tested by back probing the terminals with the connector plugged in. DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P20B2 may falsely set in the DCU (Dosing Control Unit) due to an inaccurate temperature input from the DEF sensord unit's temperature sensor. If DTC's P205B, P205C, P205D, or U02A2 have set, diagnose these DTC's before suspecting an issue with the cutoff valve.

TT-16-003 Subject vehicles may exhibit a MIL lamp on with reduced engine power due to a fault within the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. If DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) related to the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) pump set, it will be helpful to follow the latest diagnostic troubleshooting procedures published in the 2015MY OR LATER online Workshop Manual found on Hinonet. Hino has found that the majority of DEF pumps returned through warranty function properly and did not require replacement. The DEF pump has a serviceable inlet connector (which has a filter screen), a serviceable backflow connector, and a serviceable DEF filter. Failure to follow the published diagnostic procedure may result in warranty chargeback, if the pump assembly is replaced when not required. Please review the diagnostic tips below regarding the DEF pump.

DEF INJEC TOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT. The following service alert is to advise about the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Injector if it's being replaced under warranty. The recent changes made to the DEF injector include enhancements to the aluminum housing. When the DEF injector is being replaced, the complete assembly including the housing, must be replaced as a unit to be covered under warranty as directed in TT-16-009. From this date forward, this component will bot be covered under warranty unless it's replaced as an assembly.
TT-16-009
General - 2011-17 Conventional Trucks or 2013-17 COE Trucks. Current production DEF injectors contain enhancements including improvements to the aluminum housing. When replacing the DEF injector, it is necessary to install the complete DEF injector assembly (Part no S17J0 - E00200) onto the vehicle, not only the center injector portion. Replacing only the center portion of the DEF injector and reusing the existing housing WILL result in warranty charge back.

Conventional Trucks (238, 258, 268 or 338) and COE (Cab over Engine) Trucks (195, 195h) Foreign debris in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank may cause the SCR (Select Calalyst Reduction) System to malfunction. This can result in DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) P20E8 or P20E9 - DEF Pressure abnormality. An inlet strainer for the DEF tank has been made available to prevent foreign material froim entering the DEF tank.
167-T1522-12
TT-15-026 Subject vehicles may exhibit a MIL lamp on with reduced engine power due to a restriction in the exhaust system such as a plugged DPF. The technician may find DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) such as P244B, P141F, P226C, and P0299 stored in the engine ECU. If any of these DTC?s are present, it is important to inspect for an exhaust restriction before suspecting an issue with the turbocharger. Codes P0299 (Underboost) and P226C (Slow VNT Response) can set when the exhaust has a restriction. Many turbochargers have been returned to Hino through warranty which test good upon inspection. These turbochargers were replaced during the same repair of a plugged DPF. Turbochargers returned through warranty will now be subject to claim denial if they were incorrectly condemned upon the same repair where an exhaust restriction was present.

ECU Diesel Particulate Reduction (DPR) Enhancement DPR Clogging may occur due to an increase in the amount of soot in the exhaust gas as a result of engine component degradation. In order to reduce the soot in the exhaust gas during this situation, even when the engine components are degraded, enhanced ECU software is available.

TT-15-016 The purpose of this publication is to communicate the standard measuring positions on the Hino chassis. In some cases, the customer may report a visual chassis posture concern where the chassis appears to be leaning more towards the driver side or passenger side. The following publication can be referenced to obtain the manufacture?s measurement positions and specifications. Should the truck not meet the specifications, you should consider the following potential causes noted in the inspection guideline section below.

Conventional Cracked Hood Repair. Reinforcement brackets and fiberglass repair methods have been made available to address hood crack concerns. In the event a subject vehicle experiences cracking of the hood near the hinges, this repair procedure should be used to address this condition. While these repair methods may be effective at repairing a hood that was damaged from impact, impact damage repair is not warrantable. Hoods should be inspected for damage prior to performing this procedure.

167-B1523-12
SB-15-026 A subject vehicle may exhibit an engine oil leak or engine coolant leaking externally from the engine head gasket sealing area on the exhaust manifold side of the engine. An improved head gasket has been made available as a service part and should be used if replacement of the head gasket is necessary. Improvement of the head gasket includes the addition of rubber seals around the engine oil and engine coolant port holes.
