Indian Motorcycle found that some 2022 and 2023 Chief models can exhibit a noise in the front of the motorcycle when operating slowly on rough or bumpy road conditions. The sound can be difficult to properly diagnose as it may resemble a metallic clicking in the front headlight area. The sound is coming from the rebound check valve within the front suspension and occurs when switching between compression and rebound. To address this, Indian Motorcycle has released this Service Advisory with instructions to install a new fork service kit that has an updated rebound check valve to correct the noise. This Service Advisory replaces ISA-21-01.

The software comes standard on all model year 2023 Chief, Super Chief and FTR models with the 4â digital round display. It will be sent out as an over-the-air update on connected bikes (on 3/6/23) and can also be downloaded from the Ride Command website on any model year 2022 Chief or Super Chief with 4â digital round display.

The sound does not affect the performance of the motorcycle. Indian Motorcycle has released a service kit with new upper fork with a revised bypass valve to correct the noise.

Damage can occur during procedures that require the battery cable to be disconnected or during battery removal and installation.

We have seen a few MY22 Chief series bikes out of the crate that while on PDI road test the engine started to bog down and the engine light came on and displayed a P1541 code in Digital Wrench. Connect a 5 amp charger to the vehicles battery and with the charger on the vehicles battery re-flash the ECU using Legacy Digital Wrench, clear the code and test ride again. This should eliminate the code.
