Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
The verbiage in the Introduction section has been updated.
Vehicle report
Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

The right-hand shift stalk may have an improper wire harness terminal crimp within the wire harness connector. Loss of communication between the right-hand shift stalk and the vehicle may result in the vehicle being disabled after it comes to a stop, thereby increasing the risk of crash or injury. A warning will appear on the dash display when communication is lost, including transmission or engine warnings, “!” next to DNR/DNRP indicator, “-“ in the DNR/DNRP indicator, and/or chimes, depending upon whether you are operating a diesel/gas or battery electric vehicle.

Safety Recall Updated software and repair procedures are now available. The Exterior Lighting Switch (ELS) in certain T180/T280/T380/T480 chassis may not function and can be reset only by a key cycle. This issue may result in non-compliance with FMVSS/CMVSS 101 and 108. Affected chassis must have the Vehicle Software updated.

Safety Recall – Interim Notification Certain vehicles may have an oversized magnet carrier in the throttle pedal assembly. The magnet carrier acts as the pivot for the throttle pedal. An oversized magnet carrier may cause the throttle pedal to stick. If the throttle pedal fails to return to idle, or sticks, it may increase the risk of a crash. Drivers may feel sticking or that the pedal doesn’t return to idle once released. Pressing the service brake will overcome a stuck throttle pedal and allow the vehicle to stop. This bulletin will be updated when parts and procedures are available.

New tools are required to support PACCAR TX-8 / ZF transmissions. Part numbers E0l-1012 (Adapter, Jack TX-8), E0l-1014 (Front Seal Installer), and E0l-1015 (Rear Seal Installer) are currently available to order

SAFETY RECALL Certain T180/T280/T380/T480 chassis may have cab mirror glass lock rings not fully seated. This could result in loss of mirror glass, reducing rear visibility and increasing the risk of an accident or injury. Missing mirrors cause non-compliance with FMVSS 111 / CMVSS 111. Mirror glass lock rings must be inspected and, if necessary, reseated.

Safety Recall 23KWJ: T280/T380/T480 Delayed Trailer Brake Release T280/T380/T480 Delayed Trailer Brake Release. Safety Recall Certain T280/T380/T480 chassis built with 2.1m Medium Duty End of Frame Trailer Connections and Tractor Protection Valves may not meet the standard trailer brake release timing requirements by 0.5 seconds. A delay in the trailer brake release may create momentary instability to the trailer and increase the risk of a crash.

Safety Recall: Parts and repair procedures are now available. Kenworth has determined that a safety defect exists in certain Model Year 2023-2024 T280, T380, and T480 chassis with TX-8 transmissions and flange mounted yokes. A locking feature may not be installed on fastener threads. This may allow the driveline fasteners to become loose, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Parts and repair procedures are now available. Kenworth has determined that a safety defect exists in certain Model Year 2021-2024 T280, T380, and T480 chassis with air brakes. The brake pedal plunger which connects the brake pedal to the brake valve may dislodge after the pedal is fully depressed, and rapidly released (side slip foot brake release). If the plunger in the brake pedal assembly dislodges, the driver may be unable to apply the service brakes, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Due to a global chip shortage, certain chassis will be shipped without the Bendix side object detection radar modules and A-pillar displays. Refer to Sales Bulletin TE2680 for details.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
