The 15-inch digital display in certain model year 2024–2026 Kenworth chassis may enter recovery mode (blue wrench screen) without prior indication. The screen becomes non-responsive and may result in non-compliance with FMVSS/CMVSS 101 (Controls and Displays), 121 (Air Brake Systems), 136 (Electronic Stability Control Systems for Heavy Vehicles). Because of a loss of speedometer and other functionality such as warnings, indicators, and gauges, the driver will not see the truck speed or the warnings that appear on the digital display. A loss of information on the digital display may increase the risk of a crash.

Safety Recall Certain Kenworth T680E Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) chassis equipped with certain Accelera High VoltageInterlock Loop (HVIL) circuit configurations may experience a sudden loss of high voltage power with unintended opening of electrical contractors, which may occur without warning. This can result in a loss ofpropulsion and may increase the risk of a crash. Software version verification, along with the installation of an upgraded circuit overlay harness kit, is required to address this issue.

Due to parts availability, this bulletin will be divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 will bring affected chassis into emissions compliance before 06/30/2025 to avoid fines and penalties. Phase 2 will include all parts that are not currently available but are necessary to bring chassis up to production level. This bulletin will be updated once all Phase 2 parts become available. The emissions exemption for all chassis involved in this retrofit expires on 06/30/2025. After that date, all chassis that have not received this Phase 1 Retrofit will be out of compliance with emissions regulations and illegal to operate. NOTE If emissions exemptions are allowed to expire, vehicle owners could receive civil fines per regulation 40 CFR 19.4 up to $5,911 per engine. In addition, owners may be required to discontinue operation of the vehicle until the retrofit is completed.

Without this update, a derate may occur.

SAFETY RECALL Repair parts and procedures are now available. Certain Kenworth vehicles from model year 2025 may contain steering gear(s) with a sector shaft that may not meet hardness requirements for the gear teeth due to improper heat-treating during assembly. Sector shaft gear teeth with lower than required hardness may prematurely wear, crack, or fracture. A fractured gear tooth may interfere with the gear mechanism leading to binding which in turn may increase the likelihood of a crash.
