PITSTOP: TECHNICAL OPERATIONS: EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO ULTRASONIC SENSOR: This Pitstop provides information related to Parking Distance Warning (PDW) alerts and repairs involving ultrasonic sensors. The PDW system alerts the driver while parking, by calculating distance based on the difference in signal transmission and reception times between the vehicle (ultrasonic sensor) and an object. The membrane film of the ultrasonic sensor is used for object detention and can be damaged by stone chips or foreign substances while driving. Damage to the cover of the ultrasonic sensor can also lead to damage to the internal circuit. As a result of this external damage, the PDW system may not receive the proper signal from the ultrasonic sensor. In some cases, the system may cause a false alarm, no alert, or phantom warnings by a “Warning Lamp’ to be displayed on the cluster. The ultrasonic sensor membrane film should be always inspected for external damage and if any part replacement should be treated as a general repair, not as a warranty claim repair for this concern. (Please note that this Pitstop only applies to models/trims that are equipped with the ultrasonic sensors.)

When normal operation is not possible due to certain outside environment conditions (such as sunlight glare, heavy rain, sunlight, snow, fog and/or substance/debris) causing a temporary concern. This stops operation causing Warning Lamp ON and/or Pop-up Message displayed on the cluster. This is a normal operation of the ADAS and once environment conditions improve and/or substance/debris are removed, the system will clear itself and operate normally.

PITSTOP: KDS COOLING FAN ACTUATION TEST - This Pitstop provides information regarding the KDS Cooling Fan Actuation Test which is only available for 2019MY~ Stinger (CK) vehicles. A screenshot of the Cooling Fan Actuation Test for a 2018MY Stinger (CK) is shown below for reference with a result of "Operation Command Failed(0x22)" (or a possible result of "Operation Command Sent") when the actuation was attempted. This is a normal operation of KDS as this actuation test is not supported for 2018MY Stinger (CK) and therefore does not require any further diagnosis or repair of the KDS or cooling fan circuit.

TSB: SPECIAL SERVICE INFORMATION & SPECIFICATIONS FOR GDI HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM - This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. This bulletin provides information relating to all Kia vehicles equipped with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. In these engines highly pressurized gasoline is injected via a common fuel rail and injectors that deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder. In comparison, in a conventional Multi-Point Fuel Injection (MPI) engine, the gasoline is injected into the intake port of each cylinder at a relatively low pressure. Due to high fuel pressure in a GDI system, servicing the GDI system requires special attention and handling procedures. This bulletin provides special service information and specifications for the GDI fuel system components.

PITSTOP - CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR RAISING WINDSHIELD WIPERS - When servicing the windshield wipers on the listed vehicles below during PDI, make sure to use the procedure outlined below to raise the wiper arms to the fully vertical position in order to avoid damaging the paint on the rear edge of the hood. It is important to note that the wipers on these vehicles are recessed under the hood to provide better appearance and reduced wind noise characteristics. This procedure applies to both key start and SMK type ignition systems.
Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
