XM Satellite Radio Reception. INFORMATION Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for MINI customers. SiriusXM is the only company currently broadcasting Satellite Radio in North America. Satellite radio was broadcast from two different sets of Satellites using different earth orbits. XM uses geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. This is different than Sirius Satellites in a Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) which came in to the vehicle at a higher angle to the horizon. Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for MINI customers via geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. Due to this angle, buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from reaching the vehicle receiver antenna and might cause audio cut outs, unless the wireless provider has installed terrestrial repeaters. Reception quality decreases the further north you travel, as the angle of the incoming signal gets smaller. Also adverse weather conditions might affect reception. At this time, in the event of a customer complaint or inquiry on interference noise: ? Do not replace any parts ? Do not program or carry out other work on the vehicle ? Explain to customer about the new Wireless Communications Service (WCS) signalsWhen investigating Satellite Radio cutouts or a temporary loss of reception: ? Air Conditioning Refrigerant R1234yf Introduction. INFORMATION Several precautions need to be observed when working on automotive air conditioning systems: Always wear eye protection and gloves while handling refrigerant or servicing air conditioning system. Avoid breathing R1234yf lubricant vapor or mist. Use only approved service equipment to discharge A/C systems. If refrigerant or compressor oil contacts the skin or eyes, large quantities of cool water should be used to flush the affected area. Never heat a refrigerant container with an open flame. Keep all refrigerant away from open flames. Under no circumstances should R1234yf service equipment or vehicle A/C systems be pressure tested or leak tested with air/R1234yf mixtures. NOTE: The use of compressed air (shop air) for leak detection in an R1234yf system can contaminate the system and/or refrigerant with moisture. Leak detection equipment that meets the SAE J2791 standard will work with R1234yf Never use fittings for an R12 or R134a system on an R1234yf system. Any difficulty in connecting service equipment may be an indication of refrigerant/equipment incompatibility with the vehicle's system. Always carefully ascertain the type of refrigerant used in the vehicle's system before performing service. Labels on underside of hood, will detail which refrigerant is used in the air conditioning system. Service the vehicle with compatible recycling equipment ONLY. Attempts to adapt and use incompatible service tools will destroy both the vehicle's air conditioning system and the service tool. Never use any R-12/R134a service tools on R1234yf systems. Tools, such as manifold gauge sets, retain small amounts of refrigerant and lubricant. Attempting to use the same equipment on both R-12/R134a and R1234yf vehicles will contaminate the air conditioning systems. Obtain and use the correct type of refrigerant recovery/recycling machine. The customer states that there is a grating or scraping noise when the steering wheel is turned. The noise comes from the area of the Steering Column Switch Center (SZL). When turning the steering wheel, the connection between the steering wheel and the SZL causes torsion stress, creating interference noise.

?SUBJECT Service Action: Program Control Units (DME) . A Check Control Message could intermittently be displayed indicating a Start/Stop Function failure. Vehicle may not restart after stopping. The following fault is stored in the DME: Fault 20BA20: clutch switch, signal: missing In addition the BDC may have the following fault stored: Fault 804084: clutch switch, plausibility fault compared to CAN signal This can occur if for example 14 gears changes are made, but the upper clutch position switch is only activated 10 times. This difference could occur when the clutch pedal is not being fully released between gear shifts or by resting a foot on the pedal so the upper switch position is not recognized.
