Door Open Message Displayed, Even Though Door Is Closed. The customer complains that while driving, a CCM (check control message) indicates the doors are open, even though they are closed. N16 and N18 Engine Oil Leak. The customer states that a small engine oil leak can be seen from the underside of the engine. CAUSE The internal sealing of the oil pump volume control solenoid valve is compromised, allowing engine oil to leak from the oil pump volume control solenoid. DIAGNOSTIC Below is the procedure for identifying how far the engine oil has migrated inside the engine electrical harness, when this issue occurs, if at all. The procedure must be followed very carefully so that the proper repair is identified. 1. Disconnect the oil pump volume control solenoid valve electrical connection per Repair Instructions 11 41 519 "Removing and installing or replacing the solenoid valve (engine oil pump)." Inspect the electrical connector; if no engine oil is found inside the electrical connector, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure. If engine oil is found inside the electrical connector, proceed to diagnostic procedure step 2. 2. Remove the cover from the DME and remove all three electrical connectors from the DME. Inspect the connectors for traces of engine oil. If no engine oil is found, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure and replace the engine section of the wire harness. Refer to EPC for the additional part number. If engine oil is found in the DME connector, proceed to step 3. 3. If engine oil is found in the DME electrical connector, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure, replace the engine section of the wire harness and replace the DME. N14 and N18 Engine: High-pressure Pump Repair Instruction. INFORMATION The current version of ISTA/D Repair Instruction 13 51 017, "Removing and installing or replacing high-pressure pump (N14, N18)" has a procedure error. The current version of the Repair Instruction states to replace the high-pressure supply hose on the N14 engine. The Repair Instruction also states not to replace the high-pressure supply hose on the N18 engine. The N18 portion of the Repair Instruction is incorrect. The CBS data calculated for the remaining distance of the front and/or rear brake pads does not agree with the actual brake pad thickness. The yellow brake lining service due indicator illuminates even though the pad thickness is greater than the minimum wear limit (approximately 3.7 mm); the brake wear sensor has not yet been activated (from a thickness of approx. 4.2 mm). In some cases, the red warning message may already be active. The CBS front/rear brake display is based on a mathematical calculation. Various influences are incorporated into this calculation (for example, vehicle speed, brake pressure, and rotor temperature). Due to changing driving characteristics and/or unfavorable environmental conditions, the calculated remaining distance may differ from actual pad thickness.

DWA (Anti-theft Alarm System): False Alarm Is Triggered Intermittently. INFORMATION Parts replacement will not solve the problem if one or more of the conditions described in the situation above caused the alarm to trigger. The sensitivity of the interior ultrasonic sensor cannot be reduced. If the customer wishes to park the vehicle with the sunroof tilted, the window partially open, and/or in an area with excessive local noise, the interior sensor must be switched off by using the following procedure: Press the lock button on the remote control twice in succession. The LEDs flash in short succession for approx. 2 seconds. The interior ultrasonic sensor is switched off until the vehicle is unlocked and locked the next time. NOTE: This information can be found in the Owner's Manual in the "Controls" section under "Switching off the tilt alarm sensor and interior movement detector."

Change in Thermostat Electrical Connector on Replacement Engine Harness. Vehicles produced from 3/2013 are no longer equipped with an engine coolant thermostat that incorporates the engine coolant temperature sensor (thermostat P/N 11 53 7 647 751). The engine coolant temperature sensor is now an individual component. To accommodate this component change, there was also a production change to the engine wiring harness; this also includes the replacement engine harnesses for earlier produced vehicles. The replacement harness is no longer equipped with the four pin connector for the thermostat / engine coolant temperature sensor, but two separate twopin connectors, one for the coolant thermostat and one for the engine coolant temperature sensor. *The N16 engine switched production to the 11 53 7 534 521 thermostat in 3/2012. This thermostat, like the new 751, incorporates a separate engine coolant temperature sensor. The connectors on the 521 thermostat will not match up to the connectors on a new, replacement engine harness. The 521 thermostat will need to be replaced with the 751 thermostat during this repair.

Discharged Battery: Energy Diagnosis Must Be Performed. MINI electrical systems and advancements in vehicle technology have resulted in an increased demand on the vehicle battery. This SI will help the dealer handle "discharged battery" complaints. A discharged battery can have various causes, most unrelated to the battery. A failed battery is often the symptom and not the cause. A fully serviceable battery fails when an electrical component causes the battery to discharge; the battery becomes internally damaged and must be replaced. For more information, refer to http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-42B.htm. For this reason, replacing the battery is not usually a permanent repair. The cause of the discharged battery must be analyzed in order to guarantee a proper repair. To repair the vehicle properly the first time in the workshop, the diagnostic test plans must be performed to completion, with all results taken into consideration. Without performing the energy diagnosis test plan, the root cause of the discharged battery cannot be identified. This increases the chances of a repeat repair. CAUSE Discharged battery.

Note: The following repair steps must be performed before the new top is installed to prevent a repeat repair for wear marks. 2. With the defective canvas cover removed, the current main pillars must be replaced. Refer to ISTA Repair Instruction 54 34 996, "Replacing left or right main pillar." 3. The current locking mechanisms and bump stops must be replaced as well. Refer to ISTA Repair Instruction 54 34 196, "Removing and installing / replacing both stowage locks."
