Service bulletins

23 bulletins

Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions

SUBJECT: Destruction and scrapping of engine assemblies replaced under warranty MODELS: FEC52, FEC72, FEC92, FGB72, FEC7T, FECZT, FEC9T DESCRIPTION: Engines replaced under warranty must be held for 60 days from claim payment, unless otherwise instructed to return the engine to MFTA or one of its suppliers. At the conclusion of the 60-day warranty retention period, in order to ensure that engines comply with current US EPA regulations, we ask that you follow the procedures outlined on the following pages to ensure that the engine block is damaged and rendered useless for repair or remanufacturing. The Environmental Protection Agency, in regulation 40 C.F.R. § 1068.240(b)(3), requires manufacturers to “…destroy the old engine block (or confirm that it has been destroyed)…” so that prevention of the engine from re-entering commerce is guaranteed. After the engine is destroyed, take a photo of the damaged portion and the engine serial # and email them to MFTA with your Dealer Code, the VIN and the Engine Serial # in the header of the email. Send the email to mfta_service@daimler.com. IMPORTANT! Failure to properly scrap an engine assembly and notify MFTA may result in claim chargeback.

Complaint counts are reports filed with NHTSA, not failure rates. A common model collects more of them than a rare one that breaks more often.
