Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions

Check for proper torque of all mounting bolts on all electric slideout motors. If any bolt is under- torqued, remove the bolt, and add blue LOCTITE® thread sealant to the bolt threads. If there is no washer on the nut side of the bolt, add a flat washer. Reinstall and torque all 5/16” bolts to 19 ft. lbs. and all 3/8” bolts to 33 ft. lbs.

Newmar has made a change to the water pump circuit fuse on certain coaches to improve customer experience. In most cases, the 10 amp fuse installed by the factory is sufficient. However, some coaches equipped with a ShurFlo water pump (Newmar part # 127488) blow the 10 amp water pump fuse.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, has issued field service campaign SF546AB. In response, Newmar is publishing PIB 495. Issue: On certain coaches, a check valve is missing on the auxiliary air tank, causing the tag axle steer tires to remain in a turned position when stopping the vehicle during a turn and shifting into reverse. In addition, some of these vehicles also require an air line retrofit.

If the coach's HWH leveling system has intermittent issues when operating, check for corrosion or loose mounting bolts. Torque the mounting bolts (if needed) to 30 ft. pounds. A ground cable may also be installed to improve the overall grounding of the HWH pump assembly.

Daimler Trucks North America has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Freightliner chassis (NHTSA# 17V 451). In response, Newmar has filed recall NHTSA# 17V 497 and TC# 2017-389. Issue: On certain motorhomes built on Freightliner XCR chassis, a battery cable mounting bracket may not have been installed at the plant per installation drawings. If improperly routed and clipped, the battery cable may be in close proximity to the frame rail. This may cause rubbing or shorting of the cable and may increase the risk of a fire.

Mailing second notice on not corrected customer letters on NHTSA Recall: Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes. Issue: Certain motorhomes may have a defective refrigerator travel latch that may activate without the user?s knowledge when the doors are closed. If the latch locks the door shut, the refrigerator cannot be opened from the inside. This could potentially cause entrapment/injury to an individual. This only applies to French door style refrigerators with a specific travel latch. Attached is a list of specific coaches affected.

Mailing second notice on not corrected customer letters on NHTSA Recall: Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes. NHTSA# 15V 803, TC# 2015- 562 Issue: On certain motorhomes, the cargo door lock actuator on the baggage doors could overheat due to a faulty keyless entry module configuration. If operated with a battery voltage below 9.5 VDC, the actuator could chatter, overheat and melt along with a portion of the inner door material which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes. On certain motorhomes, the driver and passenger power night shades may be operated using the remote when the ignition is in the ON position. If the ignition is on and the remote night shade button is pressed, the night shades may lower, blocking the side views from the driver. This may increase the risk of a crash, which may cause injury and/or property damage.

Spartan Motors USA, Inc. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes built on Spartan chassis. In response, Newmar Corporation is publishing the following recall: NHTSA #17V 195 TC #2017-162. Issue: On certain motorhomes, the ball joints on the independent front suspension may be loose. If not detected, the loose ball joints could separate over time. This could affect vehicle handling and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Daimler Trucks North America has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Freightliner chassis. In response, Newmar is publishing recall NHTSA# 16V 721 TC# 2016-488. On certain motorhomes built with a heavier adjustable straight foot pedal, the brake activation signal to certain towed devices may not deactivate when the motorhome service brakes are released. If the brake activation signal to a towed device remains active when the motorhome chassis service brakes are released, the brakes on a towed device may remain engaged depending on the brake configuration of the trailer. A towed device with incorrectly operating brakes may increase the risk of a crash.

A SUDDEN LOSS OF AN ENGINE BRAKE, WITHOUT WARNING ON A MOTORHOME, MAY LEAD TO A REDUCED BRAKE CAPACITY POTENTIALLY INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

NHTSA RECALL# 16V 414, TC#2016-288 ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, AN INCORRECT SPACER MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE STEERING GEARS MOUNTED ON THE FRONT AXLE OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS MAY POTENTIALLY RESULT IN WEAR OVER TIME LEADING TO A LOSS OF THE MECHANICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT AXLE WHEELS. IF THIS HAPPENS, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL MAY OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

NHTSA#: 16V 008 TC#: 2016-018 NEWMAR CORPORATION HAS BEEN ADVISED BY LIPPERT COMPONENTS THAT ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES USING LCI COACHSTEP ELECTRIC DOUBLE OR TRIPLE ENTRANCE STEPS, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL OF A STRUCTURAL FRACTURE WITHIN THE LIPPERT STEP ASSEMBLY. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL OF A STRUCTURAL FRACTURE OF THE CENTER BOLT OF THE FAN GEAR ASSEMBLY WHICH MAY CAUSE THE FAN GEAR ASSEMBLY TO DISENGAGE FROM THE STEPS. THIS ISSUE CREATES AN UNSTABLE PLATFORM, WHICH COULD CAUSE A PERSON TO FALL AND RESULT IN INJURY.

NHTSA#: 15V 803 TC#: 2015- 562 ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, THE CARGO DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ON THE BAGGAGE DOORS COULD OVERHEAT DUE TO A FAULTY KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE CONFIGURATION. This PIB has been created to inform Newmar dealers that power lock actuators for baggage doors (part # 66214 and part # 123822) are now obsolete. The new part (# 024193) is a replacement for both of the obsolete parts and will mount the same way. The wire connections have changed from a plug to two barrel connectors. The barrel connectors may be used or cut off to install with spade terminals, which allows wires to be reversed easily.
