Technical service bulletins are instructions a manufacturer sent its dealers about a known fault. They are not recalls and the work is usually not free, but they are the clearest signal of a problem the manufacturer already knows about.

Daimler Trucks North America has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Freightliner chassis (NHTSA# 17V 451). In response, Newmar has filed recall NHTSA# 17V 497 and TC# 2017-389. Issue: On certain motorhomes built on Freightliner XCR chassis, a battery cable mounting bracket may not have been installed at the plant per installation drawings. If improperly routed and clipped, the battery cable may be in close proximity to the frame rail. This may cause rubbing or shorting of the cable and may increase the risk of a fire.

Mailing second notice on not corrected customer letters on NHTSA Recall: Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes. Issue: Certain motorhomes may have a defective refrigerator travel latch that may activate without the user?s knowledge when the doors are closed. If the latch locks the door shut, the refrigerator cannot be opened from the inside. This could potentially cause entrapment/injury to an individual. This only applies to French door style refrigerators with a specific travel latch. Attached is a list of specific coaches affected.

NHTSA# 15V 803, TC# 2015- 562 Issue: On certain motorhomes, the cargo door lock actuator on the baggage doors could overheat due to a faulty keyless entry module configuration. If operated with a battery voltage below 9.5 VDC, the actuator could chatter, overheat and melt along with a portion of the inner door material which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

In response, Newmar Corporation is publishing the following recall: NHTSA #17V 195 TC #2017-162. Issue: On certain motorhomes, the ball joints on the independent front suspension may be loose. If not detected, the loose ball joints could separate over time. This could affect vehicle handling and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

IF THE BRAKE ACTIVATION SIGNAL TO A TOWED DEVICE REMAINS ACTIVE WHEN THE MOTORHOME CHASSIS SERVICE BRAKES ARE RELEASED, THE BRAKES ON A TOWED DEVICE MAY REMAIN ENGAGED DEPENDING ON THE BRAKE CONFIGURATION OF THE TRAILER. A TOWED DEVICE WITH INCORRECTLY OPERATING BRAKES COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

This PIB has been created to inform Newmar dealers that power lock actuators for baggage doors (part # 66214 and part # 123822) are now obsolete. The new part (# 024193) is a replacement for both of the obsolete parts and will mount the same way. The wire connections have changed from a plug to two barrel connectors. The barrel connectors may be used or cut off to install with spade terminals, which allows wires to be reversed easily.

THE CORRECT ORIENTATION OF THE BATTERY CABLES ON THE PASS-THROUGH STUDS IS CRUCIAL TO PREVENT EITHER CIRCUIT FROM OVERLOADING THE FUSES. THE LOWER POSITIONED 150 AMP CHASSIS FUSE IN THE FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS DISTRIBUTION PANEL IS TRIPPING ON SOME ESSEX, MOUNTAIN AIRE, DUTCH STAR, AND VENTANA UNITS WHEN STARTING THE GENERATOR.
