Service Bulletin/Repair Instructions
The affected vehicles are equipped with Dexter Canada lift/steer axles, specifically models of the Smart-Steer 2.0 self-steering axle with a bolt steer arm at 8-7/8" tie-rod location, supplied by Dexter Canada. Dexter Canada has informed us that under certain heavy loading conditions the bolts attaching the steer arm to the knuckle can potentially shear. If this condition occurs, the steer arm will detach from the knuckle on the affected side and potentially drag along the ground. In some cases, the sheared section of the steer arm bolt will dislodge from the steer arm and fall to the ground. The potential defect and remedy are outlined in attached Dexter Service Bulletin SB009R. There are no warning signs prior to failure. Precautions to be taken to minimize safety risk until corrective measures are implemented are listed in the Dexter Service Bulletin.
