DESCRIPTION: Van Hool has determined that some of the seven fasteners securing the automatic belt tensioner base plate are subject to slackening. Tests have shown that these fasteners must be installed with Loctite 243 and tightened to a torque of 90 ± 10 Nm (65 ± 7 ft.lbf). To address this issue, Van Hool is conducting a field change program whereby the seven fasteners must be removed and checked one by one for length and thread pitch (1.75 mm). SUBJECT : Engine overheating due to an open or not properly closed access door with electric cooling fans CONDITIONS : This service bulletin does not entitle to any reimbursement. Your vehicle is equipped with electric cooling fans located at the inside of the access doors of the radiator and charge-air cooler compartment. To prevent personal injury due to running fans, a safety system with proximity switches prevents the cooling fans from running when the access door is open or not properly closed. The cooling system will in that case not operate causing possible overheating of the engine when this situation continues for a longer time. To prevent this from happening, it is important to follow the guideline below:

Service Information: In its production process, Bock, manufacturer of refrigerant compressors, has switched to a new type of motor protection switch for the electric motor of the refrigerant compressor. As the MP10 motor protection switch (VH11472802) is no longer made available as a spare part, as of now you will receive the new INT69G motor protection switch (VH11691810) when ordering. The MP10 and the INT69G are interchangeable, but fastening and electric connection are different.

Product Improvement: ALL VEHICLES WITH LIGHT-ALLOY WHEELS - Introduction of wheel-end monitoring system (WEM). Van Hool has released a wheel-end monitoring system (WEM) which can be installed on all vehicles equipped with light-alloy wheels. The WEM is installed at the outboard side of the wheel and monitors vibrations produced by the wheel bearing. It warns in case of bearing raceway spalling by flashing a red LED on the unit. The WEM is delivered with a magnet which is used to change from "transport" to "standstill" mode.

Service Information: he purpose of this service bulletin is to inform you about the innocent traces of lubricant at the bottom of the transmission bell housing on new vehicles. They are caused by the protective anti-corrosion coating at the inside of the bell housing which becomes liquid at transmission operating temperature. This phenomenon is temporarily and no indication that there is a sealing problem! The lubricant can easily be removed with ordinary cleaning product.

Product Improvement. Introduction of new single check valves in cooling-circuits deaeration lines.Van Hool have recently switched over into production a new type of single check valve. Contrary to the previous type equipped with a plastic housing, the new type comprises an aluminium housing. Because of this, they are better suited to resist higher coolant temperatures. As the new type can also be used on previoulsy sold vehicles, only the new type will be available as a spare part. This service bulletin applies to All Van Hool Vehicles.

Van Hool has released a work procedure to assist ABC Companies in successfully retrofitting a CX45 coach factory equipped with an Iteris LDW system to a Wabco LDW2 system. Transmission routine inspection on leaks. Van Hool has issued this bulletin to advise customers of specific areas to include in their routine inspections for the Allison WTB500 transmission. Filler tube/dipstick tub mounting. If broken or loose brackets are found it is necessary to tighten or replace the bracket. Loose or broken brackets can cause unnecessary vibration. This will cause abnormal wear on the seal at the base of the transmission filler tube and can damage componetns causing them to crack or separate. Seal at base of transmission dipstick tube. If damage or leaking seals are found, it is necessary to replace the seal.

Service Information: Bevel gear of front axle steering system Service records have shown that the grease in the bevel gear could affect performance at very low temperatures (below -20°C/-4°F). If the grease in the bevel gear becomes hard enough to affect drivability, additional manual force could be required to turn the steering wheel. This would be especially noticeable when the steering wheel is turned the first times after an initial start-up. The phenomenon could disappear later as a matter of course due to the warming up of the grease in the bevel gear. Additionally it has been determined that in some cases water has penetrated the bevel gear via the sealing thereby contaminating the grease. The penetrating water will start corrosion of the bearings. This problem shows a gradual, but continual increase of the steering forces and will not disappear at higher ambient temperatures or when the bevel gear is in use. Checking the bevel gear rotation torque will help in determining if the bevel gear needs to be replaced. If either of these conditions are observed, it is necessary to replace the bevel gear by the corresponding ZF bevel gear. Old and new bevel gears are interchangeable, but note that two different types of bevel gears are used. Also note that the new bevel gear has a mid-position which should be taken into account during the installation of the bevel gear.
