Make sure that the sound is coming from the engine pad, NOT from the drive shaft. Remove the left engine pad and split by removing the small screw. Lubricate with graphite grease (PN 1161851) on points as in attachment. Torque for small screw is 8 nm.

Volvo has identified that the coolant bleeder hose (engine side) may degrade over time and crack due to heat and humidity load. This condition can create a coolant leak, and also pose a risk of coolant leaking on the catalytic converter. If the coolant leak goes unnoticed, coolant may accumulate in the catalytic converter heatshield insulation and, in a worst case scenario, over time this might result in a fire in the engine compartment area when the vehicle is stationary.

Note: Vehicles with Air suspension can be identified by the following VDN code: RI03 Service: Too high tire pressure could produce noise that could be misinterpreted as noise from the front air suspension system. First ensure that the tire pressure is matching the Correct tire pressure, refer to the Tire Label (located in left side B-pillar) or Owners Manual. It is required that workshop test drive the vehicle with Correct tire pressure in order to verify the customers complaints regarding unacceptable noise from the front suspension. If the noise is confirmed, replace front shock absorbers according to TJ Instruction VCC-503532-2 (see also movie, special tool 9997644_v3.mp4) and perform a SUM upgrade. Note:The Hose coupling (31429025) should be used as a tool when filling the shock absorber during reassembly, should be reused.

Note: It's extremely important to adjust the new balance shaft with the correct tools according the instructions otherwise the sound may occur again in a short mileage.

This graphic was removed from the software on May 12, 2017 due to some inaccuracies. Service: Affected software packages: - Total Upgrade - Service 2.0 - PDS (Pre-Delivery Service) - VDDM_PBL (Vehicle Dynamics Domain Master Primary Bootloader) - DIM Upgrade or Reload Any vehicle that received one of the software packages listed above from May 8th, 2017 to May 11th, 2017 will have received the DIM graphic. From May 12th, 2017 and on, if any of the software packages listed above are loaded to a car that has received the new graphic, it will be removed. Vehicles built from structure week 2017w17 to 2017w22 will have the graphic in the car from the factory but it will be removed when any of the software packages listed are loaded. Do NOT replace, reload or upgrade any components for customer complaints of this function missing. This function will be re-added to the DIM software at a later date that is to be determined.

Technical Journal TITLE : The Error Frame Finder (EFF) can be an aid in fault tracing intermittent CAN network problems by providing a visible indication of error frames that are being transmitted on the network when the fault becomes active. The advantage of using the EFF function is that error frames are usually transmitted on the network before a vehicle symptom can occur. Hence, if the fault is very intermittent in nature, it may be possible, for example, to induce the wiring fault for a short duration by manipulating the vehicle harnesses and connectors. The electrical fault will occur and be detected by the EFF without ever having a vehicle symptom appear. The instructions for setting up the tool have been simplified.

This is a Technical Journal: 1.Remove oil pump from AOC (Active On demand Coupling)and inspect the strainer. (See att.) 2.Clean strainer with lint-free cloth, do not use any cleaning liquids (this can contaminate the oil) 3.Clean pump sump in AOC, do not use any cleaning liquids (this can contaminate the oil) 4.Assemble cleaned pump to AOC 5.Fill up with new oil to correct oil level in AOC according to VIDA. 6.Perform a calibration using VIDA If there is a screeching noise (see attachment) and the calibration finishes within one minute, the AOC is OK, and sludge on the strainer and/or air in the oil system is root cause. Release the car. If there is not a screeching noise, and the calibration process takes more than one minute due to autostarting two times, then do a test drive while trying to provoke front wheels slip (obey all traffic laws and be aware of your surrounding). If the DTC returns, then replace the complete AOC. If the car is inside structure week 201220-201419, use VIDA to order and download the following SW after AOC replacement:: 31411060 for car 134, 155, & 156 31411059 for car 124 & 136

Also replace front brake pads if vehicle is built before 15w19, or after 15w20 if the brake pads are worn down or there has been a previous attempt to grease or chamfer the pads to repair the car.

This is a Technical Journal: If the vehicle is turned off and restarted again within 1-10 minutes, the P-SIM may not be working. ?No connection to service? will then be shown in the Download Center. When this symptom occurs, it will not be possible to download or upgrade any in-car Apps via the Car Modem P-SIM connection to internet. This symptom may occur after an Upgrade or Reload of the TEM done after week 27, 2016. Service: To temporarily fix this issue, the previous TEM software version may installed by downloading SP 31494965 to establish functional P-SIM communication. After loading the software with VIDA, make sure Auto Time is selected in the Settings menu, drive the car outside and wait for the clock to update. Then shut the car off, close and lock the doors. After 3 minutes, re-start the car and attempt to make a connection with the Car Modem.

2016 XC90 D-TPMS, Low tire pressure warning Tires/Slow leaks 21 Warning lights and chimes/Tire pressure monitoring, Low tire pressure warning If the vehicle is equipped with direct tire pressure monitoring sensors (D-TPMS) and there is a warning message in the DIM about Low tire pressure, follow advice under Service. In case there is a TPMS warning message in DIM about Low tire pressure: Check tire pressure on the concerned wheel to confirm the symptom. Note: Refer to Tire label on B-pillar for the correct tire pressure. If the tire pressure is low, check that there are no visible damages or screws / nails in the tire. If the tire is defective, have it replaced. Place some soap water between the air valve and rim to check if there are any bubbles at the air valve. Note: also push the air valve sideways to see if there are any air leaks when valve is not in centre position. If leak/bubbles are found at the air valve, pull up the air valve one or few millimetres using tire valve tool until the air leak stops. If air valve is defective or if the leak continues after pulling up the air valve, then check and eventually replace the air valve with a service air valve PN 31400856. Once tires are not leaking and have the correct tire pressure, initiate a D-TPMS calibration and road test vehicle.
